The enormous bronze eagle adorning the German Battleship Admiral Graf Spee has been lifted from the sunken vessel by a team of divers working off the coast of Montevideo.

The Admiral Graf Spee was scuttled in December 1939 by her Captain having taken shelter in Montevideo harbour as a result of battle damage sustained in an encounter with Royal Navy cruisers.
