Shrapnel Offers Special Savings On Nautical Titles

wpengine

A new month equals a brand new month long special at the Gamers Front, the Shrapnel Games online store. Unlike the various sales that run throughout the year for a week or two at a time the monthly specials are exactly that: special savings that last for the entire month. Usually consisting of savings on at least two games but sometimes more, for the month of December Shrapnel is discounting two watery titles for your enjoyment.

In December both War Plan Pacific and Salvo! are on sale.

War Plan Pacific (Windows, available as a physical product or download) is a turn based grand strategy game of the war in the Pacific beginning when the Japanese attacked the West in 1941. This is not a hyper detailed wargame though, but rather a manageable, fast paced game that can be played through in a single session.

Turns represent one month, ships are either groups (transports, convoys, etc) or individual ships of light cruiser size and higher. The map is point to point and stretches to encompass the entire Pacific. Focusing entirely on the air and naval aspects of the conflict, combat is handled in an elegant matter that promotes realistic results without bogging the game down. Land combat is entirely dependent on sea control. Win the naval war, win the island war.

Mirroring the difficulties both sides faced during the conflict each side has two ways to win. One is the quick "knock out/decisive battle" victory while the other represents a more protracted win. The victory conditions are not the same for both sides, making for an exciting time since not only do the players have to ensure they are trying to met their victory conditions, but they must make sure they are denying the enemy theirs.

War Plan Pacific comes with three campaigns (one historical set up, two alternate set ups) and allows some modifications to be made to the game. Players can fight the AI or go against another opponent through PBEM or live online play.

War Plan Pacific is on sale through December 31st for only $35.95.

Before warfare on the high seas was decided by dueling aircraft it was a time of stout hearts and iron balls. As in cannonballs. Salvo!, from SprueGames, takes players back to the Age of the Fighting Sail, allowing engagements from the 17th through 19th centuries.

Salvo! (Windows/Mac, physical product or download) is a turn based naval wargame. Thanks to a intuitive control system and easy to read UI, virtual commodores can do battle with everything from a single ship to an entire fleet, allowing an endless array of battles to be played.

Salvo! includes a wide variety of vessels from England, Space, the Netherlands, France, the United States, and pirates from Barbary and the Caribbean. Land, shallow water, boarding actions, various types of shot, variable winds, and more all ensure that the game includes everything important to naval combat of the era.

A branching campaign system will keep you occupied for a long time, but the ability to extend the game even further is available due to the ability to edit scenarios and units. Gamers can challenge the AI or other gamers, and Salvo! even supports cross-OS compatability. PC users can fight Mac users, and vice-versa.

Salvo! is on sale for $34.95 in the month of December.
