Just to enlighten those who may not know, during WWII ANZAC forces were given the job of 'mopping up' Japanese forces skipped past by US forces. So it looks like Aust & NZ are still doing the 'mopping up'. Shame on you modern day America! Re Mr Cooper’s comment,

Just to enlighten those who may not know, during WWII ANZAC forces were given the job of ‘mopping up’ Japanese forces skipped past by US forces. So it looks like Aust & NZ are still doing the ‘mopping up’. Shame on you modern day America!

He is still alive, 90 years old, and sharp as a tack. He remembers everything. I wish someone could come to Roseburg, Oregon and get his story before it is too late. Tarawa was one of the Marine landings we we were taught at PI; even though it experienced major problems. I read about this in the August, 2009 issue of "Naval History" and would like to get in touch with Mr. Leon Cooper. I don't know how I can help but I will be damned if I sit by and let this sacred Marine landing be used for Garbage!!!!
