Video Game Leaders Join Forces with Operation Supply Drop for “8-Bit Salute” Fundraiser May 17-18, 2014
WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 10, 2014) – Gamers can play all day and night to help raise funds to send video game equipment and titles to U.S. troops deployed to combat zones or recovering in military hospitals during Operation Supply Drop’s third annual fundraising event, the “8-Bit Salute” on May 17 – 18, 2014.
Funds and donations raised by Operation Supply Drop, a military-focused video game charity during the 24-hour gaming marathon, will be used to create care packages full of video gaming gear for troops in Afghanistan as well as various recovery centers across the country, offering stress-relief and a much needed diversion for our heroes in uniform.
Machinima sensation Rooster Teeth (creators of the award-winning Red vs Blue series), gaming juggernaut Wargaming America (World of Tanks, World of Warplanes), developer Naughty Dog (creators of Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, and The Last of Us) and gaming-headset powerhouse ASTRO Gaming have pledged significant support and will field fundraising teams via the newly-rebuilt Operation Supply Drop website at www.operationsupplydrop.org.
Fans will be able to log into the new Operation Supply Drop website to either join these teams or create teams of their own to raise funds for the troops, while having a chance to win a variety of prizes. More than a dozen additional video game developers and publishers will be fielding fund-raising teams, supplying donations and video games to ensure this year’s 8-Bit Salute is the most successful to date.
“Rooster Teeth is excited to grow the partnership we have with Operation Supply Drop as well as provide assistance to those who dedicate themselves to serving our country,” Rooter Teeth co-Founder Gus Sorolla, said. “Now that Operation Supply Drop has a local presence in Austin, we look forward to further collaboration.”
