The National D-Day Museum, America’s National World War II Museum, located in New Orleans has received a $5 million campaign gift – its largest gift to date – from former Netscape CEO, James Barksdale. Barksdale, a member of the Museum’s board of trustees, has designated his gift to the Parade Ground – a major focal point of the Museum’s $282 million expansion project and capital campaign. "For me, it was an easy decision," said Barksdale. "The National D-Day Museum is dedicated to educating our country’s children about this epic time in the history of our world. The price of peace and the consequences of war is a lesson that we must teach to present and future generations. No one does it better than The National D-Day Museum."
Barksdale’s gift marks a major milestone in the Museum’s capital campaign, launched in 2004. "We are thrilled to have such a significant gift from one of our country’s most esteemed business leaders," stated Louis M. Freeman, chairman of the Museum’s capital campaign. Freeman reported that corporations, foundations, and individuals in Louisiana and across the country have donated nearly $20 million dollars for the campaign this year alone.
