Title: Senior Gaming Editor, Armchair General
Email: jim.zabek@weiderhistorygroup.com
Forum Handle: LongBlade
Hobbies: Gaming, Cooking, Reading
Now Playing: Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Command Ops: Battles from the Bulge, and has joined a Skype-based 4th Edition D&D group. He also tries to squeeze some Warhammer and Warhammer 40K in when time permits.
Background: Jim started wargaming about the age of 10. He can’t remember whether Starship Troopers or Panzer Blitz was his first wargame, but he’s been gaming ever since. Somewhere along the way he got into Dungeons & Dragons, and then PC based gaming. Steel Panthers was his first real PC wargame love, which is reflected in a preference for tactical wargames, but he’s been known to play strategic and operational games, too, as well has FPS, RPGs, the occasional sim, and short, manic bursts on MMOs.

Prior to joining Armchair General, Jim worked at Wargamer.com for ten years as the Editor-in-Chief. Before that it is rumored he spent time working in the first dot-com bubble and may have even held a real job as a manager in international logistics. Jim, of course, denies doing anything so disrespectable as working in a brick and mortar office, but the rumors persist.
It has been confirmed that Jim has a master’s degree in international management from Thunderbird, but it is uncertain whether those studies included any anthropological investigation of zombie culture and trade.
When not gaming, Jim enjoys spending time in the kitchen or in front of the grill. He’s a charcoal-only man, and has been spotted at least once grilling in a sub-tropical thunderstorm, complete with lightning dancing dangerously close to the tongs. He firmly believes Real Men™ grill in any weather.
Hail! Wassail! Glad to see two old friends getting together. Have known ACG from its birth, and Jim since 5th grade. I would like to take credit for getting him into wargaming, but pretty sure that was inevitable. Here’s to a long, productive, and happy partying up.
