The medic is in high demand and you cannot risk Luker’s life waiting for him to arrive. You rip open Pvt. Luker’s clothing as Pvt. Bernson opens a bandage and sulfa powder packet. Before sprinkling the wound with powder, you grasp the hot shard and pull it free, praying you have not made matters worse. Private Bernson presses down firmly with the bandage as you wrap it around your friend, all the while vocalizing your encouragement.
With the bandage in place, you make your friend comfortable as another barrage screams through the trees. You shield his body with your own and wait out the terror-filled minutes as countless high explosive rounds erupt all around you.
