15 You quick-time it over the terrain before the first glow of the morning illuminates the eastern horizon. The constant “whump” of artillery near the beaches is a sober reminder of the magnitude of this entire operation and the events that have yet to play out as the landing crafts approach. By the time you reach the Douve river, the bridges are guarded by a few lone riflemen. They are quickly dispatched and you prepare a fortified position to prevent the Germans from recapturing the key river crossings. Before long, the German 6th Parachute Regiment rapidly approaches, their objective matching yours. An intense battle breaks out and the Fallschirmjaegers take heavy casualties thanks to your fortified defense. The Germans are on the brink of retreat when another cluster of paratroopers arrive to bolster your ranks and together you drive the enemy back on their heels and the retreat turns into a rout. The continued arrival of reinforcements secures the objective, thanks in large part to your haste, diligence and valor. The bridges are secured and the men on the beaches now have a route inland! Congratulations!
