Will post a massive "History" of the dashyverse when time permits, I have decided to go with the "Exodus" path. You, the players, will play as C.O.s of various Squadrons in the Human Re-Birth fleet.

I Will GM/play as High Admiral Dashy, descendant of the Ledgendary James Fairfax Dashy of Halifax. Admiral Dashy will assign objectives and Command the Freedom MKII, the largest ship in this little fleet.

K, I hope your TacRes is flexible ...

Oh it is - PM or email me some general weapon types and how you'd like FTL to work (if any - Generation Ships are interesting too ) and I'll see what I can piece (back) together where ship classes are concerned.

Any thoughts on mapping?

Oy, and you talk about us being hypocritical!

I think that doing a sci-fi land thing would be kind of interesting...but I'm not big on another...naval...wargame at this time.

Hmm...perhaps, as it is big in the sci-fi genre now, something that has to do with Halo, like Reach, or Harvest?

I also have a storyline in my mind that I'm making into a far future book...if you want more info I can give it to you guys.

Basic Story:

Turns out that earth is in the middle of "Raider Space", a sector of the galaxy in which Space Pirates and Genocideicly minded people congregate.

The (relatively) Peaceful people on earth have been kept safe by the Oort Cloud, a cloud of comets just beyond the solar system that has scrambled all their scouts sensors, leading them to believe that it was merely a solar wasteland.

However, Humanity was not to be stopped. upon the discovery of FTL travel Humans were soon traveling to other star systems in the quadrant. Unfortunately, as soon as these ships were discovered, the alien races that discovered them would either slaughter the crews and take the shiny new ship as their own, or merely blow the ship out of existence for kicks.

Thus the need for the Earth Protection Initiative Collaboration(EPIC)* was born. Humanity soon had a decent fleet operational, due to the advanced nature of human technology compared to neighboring races, this fleet had a huge qualitative advantage.

In what would come to be known as the Alpha Conflict, an aggressive race of humanoids known as the Garathkan, attempted to force entry to Sol via Alpha Centauri. Due to the bravery of EPIC midshipmen and the Brilliant Admiral Dashy the Garathkan fleet was utterly destroyed at little loss to the Human Fleet.

Thus began 100 years of prosperity in which the solar system was fully colonized and the star-base at Alpha upgraded heavily.

In 2465, May 15th the Garathkan came once more, this time with an armada of conscripted ships. they arrived at Sol itself, Bypassing Alpha with stolen technology. Faced with odds of over 200 foreign ships to every human vessel, Admiral Dashy led a suicide charge into the heart of the Garathkan Fleet with his Flagship, the Slightly antiquated EPIC Freedom while his clone took the ultra modern EPIC Freedom MKII and a small fleet to Alpha, to link with the small, but highly trained force stationed there.

Part of Dashy's fleet was the so-called "Repository". the Repository is the largest ship under human command, over forty miles long and twenty miles wide. The Repository carries every humans memories and enough replication facilities to terraform a barren planet and populate it with humans, plant-life and wildlife. It is this Repository that must be guarded at all costs during the Exodus to the Civilized Sector, or all will be lost.


You fine fellows are the commanders stationed at Alpha, at the moment oblivious to earths fate.

The Udat, a Blackhawk, once performed a swallow directly into the Habitat Tranquillity while assisting Dr. Mzu on her escape and Oenone does something similar inside Tanjuntic-RI when saving the research team.
Still thinking on weapons, though Rail guns, missiles and the ubiquitous lazer are all on the list.

Time to start detailing ship sizes and classes I guess.

The Ship Classification by size and armament goes as so...

HBB/Behemoth, a ship over 10 kilometers in length.

SBB/Super Dreadnought, A Ship Over 2 kilometers in length and under 10 kilometers in length

BB/Dreadnought, A ship under 2 kilometers in length mainly armed with long range and powerful weapons, with a small close range armament.

BA/Battleship a ship under two kilometers in length armed with a vast range of weaponry, from long range Rail guns to short range plasma projectors.

BC/Battle Cruiser A ship under two kilometers in length armed with powerful weapons and massive engines at the expense of armor.

CV/Carrier A Ship capable of carrying large numbers of smaller craft and replicators( for replacements).

CB/Heavy Cruiser. a ship smaller than 1 kilometer. Heavily armed and Armored for its size, at the cost of speed.

CA/Cruiser. a ship with a good balance of armour, guns and speed.

CL/Light Cruiser. a ship with little armor and guns but massive speed.

DD/Destroyer
Large 500-900 meter ships designed to protect capital ships from corvettes, frigates and cruisers, thus armed with close range weaponry.

FF/Frigate, Smaller 250-500 meter ships with a variety of roles, some are fast "Attack" frigates which are armed with plasma projectors and designed to take out larger assets while others carry large replicators and are used to repair damaged ships.

DDC/Corvette
50-250 meter ships designed to destroy fighters and protect valuable assets.

Fighters/Bombers
Small craft under 50 meters that are used to swarm enemy craft, getting inside the shield bubble to attack exposed armor.

Drones.
Unmanned craft, usually used for scouting or as mines.

Due to the nature of the ship's drive, any ship capable of FTL jumps will by necessity be oriented toward broadside armament.

@Dashy, are our insystem drives dependent on the solar plane, or do you have a plan to deal with 3D mapping?

Ok, I'm figuring that a battlecruiser would be fast....with about 2/3rds the primary armament of a battleship, and a solid secondary battery of antifighter weapons.

If we're focussed towards laser armament, then laser batteries, missile armament, then laser secondaries, and a primary battery of a whole shedload of the most powerful missiles availible, with precious little of the more balanced armament a true battleship would carry.

Weaponary and standard armament!

HBB's,SBB's,BB's and BC's main weapon is the Railgun. The awesome amount of damage these huge cannons are capable of inflicting makes up for the projectiles slower than light speed. HBB's and SBB's also carry large batteries of laser cannons for mid range combat. Railguns are usually mounted in turrets on the centrline of the ship, the HBB Freedom MKII has 12 Railguns mounted in double turrets on the deck and 12 railguns mounted in double turrets on the bottom of the Hull. Super-Dreadnoughts, Dreadnoughts and battlecruisers usually have a similar layout, merely with smaller and less railguns.

Lasers, due to their usually weak nature, need to be slowed to make their projectiles poweful. this means laser projectiles capable of damaging enemy capital ships must travel slower than railgun projectiles. Hence Lasers are used in mid range confrontations, where they will hit more often. The HBB Freedom has multiple batteries of Laser cannons on the port and starboard bows, in a broadside configuration. Once again, SBB's and BB's usually follow this configuration but BC's, due to their fast nature, sacrifice their frontal railguns for a foward "Bow Chaser" battery.

Plasma Projectors are rarely mounted on any BB's, wether they be a Kilometer long or twenty, Plasma projectors launch superheated blobs of gas, similar to the gases that make up stars, at their enemies. however, these blobs soon dissapate, and their range is severly limited. BC's of the Queen Elizabeth class mount these instead of Laser Batteries on the broadside, gaining a close range advantage at the cost of mid range combat effectiveness.

More weapon types to come, suggest your own please!

Now for an In Depth description of the EPIC HBB-Freedom MKII:

Commissioned By EPIC in 2457, the Freedom is the most advanced ship of its class. Over 15 Kilometers long, it is also the largest combat ship in the EPIC fleets.

Mounting 24 massive railguns, the main armament of the Freedom is capable of mashing a planet to dust in hours, in addition to these, the Freedom mounts large broadside batteries of Laser Cannons, nearly twice as many as the original.

Freedom MKII also has a Kilometer long hanger, in which the Admirals personal Yacht, the 300 meter long Interceptor, and the small complment of fighters and bombers is stored.

It is as of yet untested in battle.


Trust me, the Freedom may sound massive and unstoppable, but my imagination is on the loose, in comparison the Freedom is small fry.

another quick detail

EPIC Trans-Repository

The Repositiory is Humanitys Ark. within it is all that is requiered for setting up a new planet. Commisioned in 2434 and launched five years later, Repository is the largest ship ever constructed by man, at over 40 kilometers long and half that wide, the Repository requiered most of the mass remaining from the moon to replicate.

Not wishing to burst any bubbles, but theoretically, a railgun would be massive, and not disposed to being lined up along the spine of a ship, as it fires something really fast in a straight line. your description sounds like a whole lot of guns effectively end to end. all but the last one would simply be destroyed, unless they are tiered.

actually, bubble bursting was pretty much the aim there

Leaving aside how you slow something moving at light speed, that would seem to weaken the impact more than anything else?

Speaking as the only (current) BB Captain, can I put in two requests for the class?

1) Can it be renamed the Titan class? That would help Prometheus ('champion of mankind') lead the themed class, though obviously if other prospective BB captains would rather name their vessels elsewise that's fine.

2) In my vision the Prometheus carries heavy broadside energy and plasma armaments - primarily pulse-lasers backed by massive capacitors - along with bow chaser-weapons that are either off-bore capable missile launchers, or possibly quad-linked railguns if that's the theme we're looking at. Does this work?

Also thoughts: Have we found a solution to 3D-mapping?
