Welcome aboard!

"... deployed to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti ... "

Ugh. Although I don't know about the camp. I was in Djibouti in the early 90's. Before going ashore we were told not to drink the water, avoid the food, and if possible, don't touch anything

Still good advice. With a few exceptions, it's a very dirty place. Seeing hundreds of thousands of people in abject poverty was an eye-opener. 100,000 refugees on a bare subsistence diet make 5 tons of excrement daily. There were more than 200,000 homeless in the city of Djibouti, but no camp services. You can figure out the rest.

Yes, open sewers and beggars with leprosy (at least that's what it looked like).

Average folks in first line western countries should see this sort of thing before they start complaining about how bad things are

Itís a sad state of affairs when they have to send officers off to a course on basic intelligence (just kidding).

Welcome aboard fellow squid.

Heh, if they did the attrition rate would be nearly 100%.

Welcome aboard fellow squid.
I was thinking the same.

As an enlisted member he should have had more than enough inteligence to pass the school with flying colors.

To bad the Army doesn't offer the same for it's 2 nd LT's

Once again, WELCOME !

I just accepted a post as a civilian analyst for the Army, returning to Djibouti in January. 23 years, 8 months and 18 days in the Navy and the Army picks up my contract extension.

I just checked the official record for my military awards and only 7 of 11 are listed. Looks like a paperwork drill to get it fixed. Is there any reason to go through the hassle? I'll never wear them again (retiring soon), and I know what I was awarded and what I wasn't. Is there a reason to have that record accurate? (No purple hearts or anything above a Defense Meritorious Service medal.)

I'd get it all straight now. When I corrected my DD-214 several things came to light including a 1972 letter from John Ripley.

It's worth the effort just to have back up for any awards you claim. advancement dates, etc.
