Basic Training Rat

I went in at age 22 and only served about 100 days. I spent almost all of it at beautiful Fort Polk, LA. After the first week of training my knees swelled up and hurt like the dickens. I was given crutches and learned to use them. I went home for 21 days on compassionate leave. When I got back the Doctor offered my an honorable discharge after I mentioned I had an episode at 17 when my knees hurt so I stayed off them for a couple of days and then was fine.

Never tell the Doc you have a prior condition! It is called fraudulent enlistment. I got out with no benefits, but my knees are still there. A civilian Doc said my kneecaps were loose (it only took one more x-ray than the Army Doc to find). They still are, but I am still plugging on. Now I have a fused foot and a nerve damaged arm to go with the knees. Life is great if you don't try to distance run...

I was refused employment by a Rail Road company the year I enlisted. During my physical they noticed the same defect & sent me to a "specialist". He said he could get me out or clear me to go. I elected to go.
