Have you drunk Bush's Kool-Aid?
Just want to Share this open letter, written by Michael Moore, to President Obama.
I thought it might give some insight into a liberal pov to win a war. It doesn't. Even as i read it, with as open a mind as possible. I just can't shake the gut feeling a major part of the new strategy for A-Stan will be how to leave as soon as possible.
This quote has so much win,

I know you know that there are LESS than a hundred al-Qaeda left in Afghanistan! A hundred thousand troops trying to crush a hundred guys living in caves? Are you serious? Have you drunk Bush's Kool-Aid? I refuse to believe it
|
If there are just 100 al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, i need some mmoore kool-aid and a tinfoil hat.
If you have the stomach for it, give it a read.

Wow! Just wow!
I never thought I would see someone as ultra-liberal as Michael Moore taking a swipe at President Obama. Of course, the President seems so liberal to me. I was in the company of friends the other night who were complaining that President Obama is a Centrist. I almost spit my drink out my nose! Maybe Mr. Moore think he is a Centrist now. If the President is a Centrist, I would hate to see liberal.
Just Wow!

Oh Bummer is just learning the facts of life about the Presidency... it is much easier to pander to your special interest groups and rabid supporters when running for office than it is once you are IN the Office. Once there, one is forced by circumstances to at least pay SOME lip service to the rest of the citizens. (Especially the "Bill Paying" variety, which many of Oh Bummer's supporters are, decidedly, NOT.)
He would have known that had he just observed the political climate and machinations and responsibilities at the National Level before deciding to believe the Messiah Makers' insistance that he was Presidential material.
But, with typical Lib/Prog attitude, it was the old "I want it MY way and I WANT IT NOW!" What else could one expect from spoiled children and the Governmentally Dependent?
Oooooops!

One of the problems of fighting ununiformed enemy(ies).
On the other hand, the Taliban wants to be the political entity in charge of Afghanistan while Al-Qaeda has not shown a willingness to take political power that I know of.
Since the Taliban have a goal that can be denied them.... at least fighting them to further that denial is a worthy effort. (At least attainable, if one is willing to think it a "worthy cause".)
AQ seems only intent on destroying the "Great Satan" and seems more purely ideological in nature. As such, their efforts will be supported by Middle East Governments of like mind, but those Governments do not have to be actively involved otherwise, nor do those Governments have to worry about AQ wanting to replace them politically. (A good method for AQ to keep support, recruits and hideouts avaiilable.)
Dual use..... the Middle East Governments "use" AQ as a surrogate versus the "Great Satan" and AQ "uses" the benevolence of those Middle East Governments...... mutually satisfactory situation.
A more difficult situation to remedy, IMHO. Particularly through mere application of military power. AQ will not be eradicated until the Middle Eastern Governments that aid and abet them stop doing so. NOT in MY lifetime, I'd wager!

Occam's Razor... AKA K.I.S.S.
Reducing everything as closely to "Black & White" as possible keeps the algebra simple.
Destroy Islamofascism and al-Qaeda goes with it. The Taliban happen to be one of al-Qaeda's few sponsors at the moment. Once the Taliban are crushed in Afghanistan and Pakistan, al-Qaeda won't have any good places left to hide.

Your kidding right. They're not hiding there now. Left years ago. Sudan and Somalia more likely and organised from a flat in Europe or North America somewhere paid for with money out of Saudi Arabia.

This fat, unshaven slob's propaganda site, is putting this stuff up there because he is off that his savior has gone back on his word to cut, run, and bring the troops home. The question could be what took so long to convince Mr. Moore that his savior says one thing, does something else, and then either claims that he didn't say that or that the opposition is lying.

Wouldn't the difference between the Taliban and Al Queda be that the former is made up of Afghanis and the latter, for lack of a better term, non-Afghanis?

Its easy to be a "liberal" and have grandiose visions when your not encumbered by the practicalities of goverment and real life.

That's the basic difference. Although, I believe that there are a fair number of Pakistani Taliban.

Some are in Algeria, Sudan, Somalia, Indonesia, the Philippines and other places... But the base of operations from which al-Qaeda can act with relative impunity is in Afghanistan and the tribal areas of Pakistan.
The Af-Pak region is where the war against al-Qaeda is. Kill the Taliban and al-Qaeda is reduced to something that local law enforcement & armed forces, CIA paramilitary and SOF can handle.
