Did JFK Use LSD?
Among the many rumors about President John F. Kennedy is that he used LSD, supplied to him by a lady named Mary Pinchot-Meyer, supposedly one of his mistresses.

Well, I don't know how true this is, but he was by many accounts using many drugs to treat a certain medical condition and/or complications from injuries he sustained when his PT boat was rammed by a Japanese destroyer.

LSD can be used for certain pain issues and the drug didn't carry the stigma as it does today so..... maybe

Although I wouldn't want the guy in charge to be high at any time....

He certainly could have been on some heavy duty pain medication for the back pain. Other then that, I have heard of no rumors of any illegal drug abuse.

I wouldn't think LSD but I can see morphine or about any other heavy duty pain-killer though.

I don't think LSD was JFK's style. Seriously. Back then, before it became illegal, it was reasearched and experimented with for it's psychological effects and possible applications such as in psychiatry, interrogation and espionage.

The affect on the psyche would f-a-a-r-r-r-r-r outweigh any pain management effects, making it impractical for daily regular use, especially in the early days when it was still being researched before it's widespread recreational use and little was known about long-term frequent use.

Although I'm sure that many of his "detractors" would like to imply that he was "on somethin'" akin to a psychedelic drug.

If we're talking initials. When it comes to JFK's weaknesses its not so much LSD that worry me it honeytraps courtesy of the KGB.

My mother was prescribed an LSD derivative for managing migraine pain in the 60's by Navy doctors. Given the president uses Navy doctors ( or at least did back then) he may have been the same thing and hence the rumors.

Correct - codiene and prednisone, hence "the moon face" that developed in later years, similar to Ted Kennedy's face who also took a lot of steroids.

So, where is the evidence for LSD?

As for the acid, he was a party boy. If he took it it was likely for fun not pain management.

And he needed stuff for pain. He was a medical, physical wreck. There's a great summary of his incredible, in a real bad sense, medical condition. Some highlights: he suffered from Addison's Disease. This is an autoimmune disease of the adrenal glands. He was diagnosed with it in 1947 (though he likely had it much earlier) and given less than a year to live. On the return trip boat trip from England, where he went for examination, he became so sick that he was given his last rites! One of three times that happened to him. He was a chronic ingestor of steroids and testosterone; the later taken daily when he was President. Etc., etc., etc.

It was amazing the man survived long enough to become President. Given the mountain of other drugs he consumed, I doubt a little LSD would have made the slightest difference.
