New UNKNOWN Pearlharbor photos!! Must see!!
Pearlharbor 1.jpg
pearlharbor 2.jpg
Pearlharbor 3.jpg
Pearlharbor 5.jpg
Pearlharbor 6.jpg
Pearlharbor 12.jpgThese photographs of the Pearlharbor attack were taken by a Marine (or sailor not really sure but the photos were all taken on land so I'm assuming it was a marine or maybe a pilot, could be anyone really, I'm just assuming landbased).
These fotos are AWESOME considering how long they sat in that old Brownie camera (68 years).
here you go, watch them and weep

Sorry, but they are not all new.
The one of USS Penssalvala I have in a book from 1948. The PA was docked at the mainland while the scout planes photos are from Ford Island. So I doubt they have just been found or that they were taken by the same person.

The only picture that didn't look familiar was number 3, taken near the submarine docks. The remainder I have seen on numerous occasions.

#3 has a plane coming inbound. Any ideas on enemy or not?
The pic.'s look like the aftermath, so I'm guessing it's a "friendly" plane.
The pic.'s might not be new, but they're still good pic.'s. With all that smoke and destruction, you can get a good feel of what the tension "in-the-air" must've been like.
Good pic.'s

I would guess that it's friendly. There are sailors standing on something in the lower left part of the photo that don't seem to be manning an AA gun or running for cover.

It was an enemy plane to anyone aboard ship that morning. US submarines only had a single.50 caliber machinegun for anti-aircraft defense at that time. A number of incoming aircraft from the USS Enterprise were shot down by both Japanese and friendly fire during the attack.

Also, it does look like it's coming in at an aggressive "attacking-dive" angle doesn't it?
After that carnage, if I were a "friendly" pilot, I certainly would be wary about flying in so close to the ships and ground especially with everyone's nerves on edge.
But that's just me.

Dont feel bad. These have been posted many times on many web sites in the past few years. Nothing certain but it seems someone turned up a set of high quality prints in a deceased USN veterans belongings. They appear to have originated from the camera of a USN photographer and these may be very early prints from the original negatives. One indication of this is these seem to be the full potograph & not the cropped versions usually appearing in the books or magazines. Editors frequently chop the photos published for space, or for dramatic effect, or from stupidity.
In any case its good these are in circulation on the internet. The original negatives are likely beyond use and another complete set of prints may not exist either. So Copenhagen thanks for posting them.

Much of the film footage was compiled as a result of Secretary of the Navy, Frank Knox's visit to Pearl Harbor, a few days after the Japanese attack, so that FDR could better understand how badly and effectively the Japanese had attacked us..

I am reminded too, after viewing the USS Arizona's tragic and bent-over conning tower that Admiral Issac C. Kidd and Captain Franklin VanValkenburg died on the Arizona's bridge and the only human remains ever recovered was one of their class rings that was found welded to the steel deck, because of the intense heat and long term burning that resulted after she blew up. The fires up forward burned for several days after the Japanese attack.
