Jeff...seriously dude....political commissars during the Great Patriotic War were not generals - even though their ranks could have general equivalents. They were civilian political authorities given oversight over certain units or sectors of a front. They were not given direct operational control over an army which remained with the generals in question.

There are so many Soviet generals not mentioned - Vatutin, Tolbukhin, Chistyakov, Yeremenko, Timoshenko, Rotmistrov, Popov, Batov, Meretskov - why can't you choose one of them?

Khrushchev was made a general on June 23, 1941 and wore a uniform. This is quoted from the book that I'm currently reading...........

Can you provide me any info on what army he may have led? Not trying to be a stickler here, Lance....but there are so many Soviet generals worthy of giving some mention to...why mention Krushchev? Or Brezhnev for that matter.... Anyway, I am pretty certain that if one referred to K or B as actual Soviet generals to a Russian audience, they would probably scratch their heads. There is a difference between being a general on the grounds of technicalities or certain provisions established by an act of state and being an actual operational commander.

Roger, see post #62 above -- I provided a photo of him in uniform. skoblin appears (not trying to speak for him, since I disagree) that only line generals count.

Recommendation: let's end the debate. Somebody name one more general and keep this moving.

Agreed. Sorry about that Janos. Quibbling about details and definitions is a bad habit one picks up debating on Russian forums, like I do on occasion.
