I had come in contact with both Ben and Joe in a bodybuilding context but when Ben found that I wasn't just a bodybuilding judge but actually had a grasp of history, we became fast friends, despite the difference in our ages.
He was always 25 years younger that his chronoligical age and he also introduced me to a few Montreal restaurants that I had somehow missed.
My condolences to Joe and all the family...he was a great man!

I don't know his full influence, but from what I have seen, his contributions to the field of military history have been remarkable, at the least. My greatest condolences for you and yours, Eric.
