NASA tests hypersonic Blackswift, based on Nazi V-1 technology

Hello everyone.

I haven't seen anything about this mentioned anywhere except via a video (no text) on the Fox News website:
video link

According to the (obviously out-of-date) information I've found, the Blackswift was rumored to be a super secret aircraft co-named HTV-3X that used a turbojet to reach supersonic and then a scamjet to reach hypersonic -- essentially a 21st century version of the J58.

Instead, the Blackswift described in the video uses pulse detonation engines, essentially a advanced version of the V-1 buzz bomb engine. This engine requires significantly less moving parts and achieves much higher efficiency than a turbofan, and is technically able to go hypersonic without any kind of "dual-stage" engine.

The Fox News video is total braindead... anyone have a good source of technical information on this? I'm under the impression that the aircraft was only unveiled, B-2-style, TODAY.

This is what happened to the X-15A-2 when it went past Mach 6+... so any plane will need super resistance to heat at that speed or higher!

I've heard of the technology, just can't remember where. Personnally I think they inserted the word "Nazi" just to jack up ratings on an otherwise dry tech story.

I used the Nazi descriptor to clarify which V-1 I was talking about.

The Fox News report may be incorrect, but every bit of information available on the Blackswift / HV3X, including the original (?) 2002 DARPA solicitation all the way though a March 2008 report from The Register and a June 2008 report from Wired, specfically state the Blackswift uses a hybrid turbojet/scamjet like the J58 with its turbojet/ramjet configuration.

The Fox News report is the only source I've seen that claims the Blackswift uses pulse detonation engines. The V-1 was the only aircraft I'm aware of that used pulse detonation propulsion until I found this.

I personally think this is really cool, because it could mean the Air Force has given up on hybrid scramjet engines for hypersonic flight and switched to a radically new technology. But no one seems to be explicitly saying this.

And to complete the circle, the no-brainer application would seem to be a new generation of hypersonic cruise missiles.

Well FOX news is an outstanding news organization that never publishes a story without throughly checking the facts so they must be right
