The Truth About Oil Consumption.
For decades now, we have been told by everyone that America is the number one consumer of oil in the entire world, with China a close second. This is a lie, pure and simple.
Who is the number one per capita consumer on the globe? Saudi Arabia...that's who.
US News and World Report lists the per capita consumption of oil as 26 barrels for Americans, and 33 barrels per person for Saudi Arabia? And what do the Saudis use all that oil for? Air conditioning...
It seems the Bedouin kings of the desert can't handle the heat.

That's the per capita rating, but what's the overall rating? There are only about 27,000,000 people living in Saudi Arabia.
Still I will agree that it seems awfully high - kind of funny that they should be using it for Air Conditioning...
And...why did you have your eyes dilated? Ouch.

It's much higher than that, Doc. Do you really think the majority of the "economically challenged" have air conditioning in Saudi? What USN&WR went on to say was that the bulk of the excess usage is to condition every public building. palace, hotel and so forth, which, in the desert, requires enormous energy consumption 24/7.
As for the other - upcoming eye surgery. I've been losing sight in my right eye for about 5 months now due to my diabetes. Surgery might be a bit of a crap shoot, but since I can't see out of it much at all right now, why not go for the best option? The way I see it - no pun intended - things can only get better.
It hasn't been too bad so far - my biggest problem has been pee-ing accurately! Loss of depth perception is definitely hazardous to not only health, but to dry feet as well. My wife made me stop using "Kentucky windage" and has refused to allow me the "Artillery Option", where I fire for effect and then adjust based on initial impact!
She's just no fun anymore.

My wife is diabetic. I can sympathize.
Since you can't use kentucky windage or drop 15 and FFE, are you resorting to precision bombing ala sitting to pee?

International Paper used to have a subsidiary oil company, IP Oil & Gas. IP was sold to Pure Resources back in 2000. A friend of mine who worked for IP said he now worked for "IP Pure Oil & Gas." I replied, "That sounds painful!"

I would have thought biggest use of oil in Saudi Arabia was desalinization so Saudi Arabia can export wheat
http://www.american.edu/TED/SAUDI.HTM.
The US is the largest importer of oil. Those imports are hurting the US economy.

Cost me $5 to fill up my scooter yesterday. And I'll have to do it again in a hundred miles or so. Outrageous!
Of course, I put almost $300 into my bicycle between new tyres, chain, strip down and rebuild.

Perhaps we should give them nuclear power then.
Solar power? Why don't they use that.

How? We import more oil than anyone else because we can afford to buy it. As the chart and graph below show...Oil imports have a positive correlation with wealth and oil exports have a negative correlation. Although statistically, there's not much difference in the average wealth of the top ten importers ($29,910/yr) versus the top ten exporters ($27,940/yr).
