D and early A models (such as that one) did not have the ball mounting, but a narrow flap.

From a WWII roleplay thread on another site. Most protagonists have stolen this tank, and are posing as German with the rest as the panzers...and plan to attack the leader of the Panzer Army...

The only thing that saved the Allies in WWII was the fact that the Germans could produce those Panthers at a very slow rate. German tank designs were like works of art resulting in slow production rates. If the Germans could produce as many Panthers as the Americans produced Sherman tanks, I can easily imagine a stalemate in Europe forcing the Allies to a political accommodation with Hitler rather than going all the way to Berlin.

But the Allies did have air superiority.

Don't forget manpower, fuel and material shortages as well as transport problems. The Germans were struggling to maintain, fuel, crew and deploy the tank fleet they had, let alone a larger one.
