Best Uniforms of the American Revolution
Ok, so we have this thread for the Napoleonic Wars, but the scope of this forum covers the 18th century as well. Personally I think there were some very interesting uniforms during the American Revolution. So, what are some of your favorites?
To get the ball rolling...
Haslett's Delaware Regt. 1776
Hesse-Cassel Field Jaegers, 1776-83
Fusilier Hesse-Cassel Erb Prinz, 1776
Queen's Rangers, 1780
Lancer of Lauzun's Legion, 1781

Some more Troiani...
Saintonge Regiment, 1781
17th Light Dragoons
Washington's Life Guard, 1777
Clark's Illinois Regt. 1782
This one is interesting as it depicts the regt. as equipped by the Spanish. You can see the distinctly Spanish musket and cartridge box.

Here's one version of their uniform.
And this is Lee's Partisan Legion which was composed of infantry and Light Dragoons originally raised in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Great paintings. I love those helmets with combs also worn by the Royal Horse artillery of Napoleonic times.

Irregular forces.
No fuss, no feathers, all practicality.

Okay that's actually supposed to be one of Roger's Rangers from the French-Indian war but same idea.
Also the uniform of a true patriot: Proletarian clothing.

Yorktown Regiments
Hi everyone! I am new to this forum...and truly enjoying it. The uniforms of the American Revolution that I prefer are definitely from the French. I agree with HG that the Saintongue uniform of the 1779 regulation (dark green and white) undoubtedly is amongst the most attractive. My favorites, however, are a German regiment in French service - Royal Deux-Ponts, and the Soissinois Regiment also wearing the 1779 uniform regulations. I have included them in a diorama I am modelling/constructing and painting of Yorktown figures using 54mm collector quality miniatures. Other regiments are under way - See photos below.
