Not as much a reply because the Freestyle was around before the F-35 even one the JSF contest if not earlier. It's really more of a development of the old Forger.

Not to mention that it was canceled around 1990.

The Russians don't know how to build VSTOL aircraft and don't have an engine manufacturer that could compete with Rolls-Royce. Their Yak-38 could barely fly in hot weather and on those hot days its payload was limited to just two tiny bombs.

Yak-38 had the worst accident rate of any maritine aircraft ever put to sea. Lack of pilot training did not help matters, wasnt uncommen for a air wing to come back to shore with half the aircraft complement missing

They really should just stick with the Su-33. They already have a great naval aircaft in the Sea Flanker just not enough carriers.

Good point Mike, they should concerntrate on the SU-33 series, and consign these Yak VSTOL aircraft to the annals of aviation history, IMHO.
