Adolphus vs. Wellington (Round 4)
Here are some basic facts for each player to help you in your voting (From Wikipedia):
Gustavus Adolphus
As a general, Gustav Adolf is famous for employing mobile artillery on the battlefield, as well as very aggressive tactics, where attack was stressed over defense and mobility emphasized over the usual linear tactics. His musketeers were widely known for their shooting accuracy and reload speed, three times faster than any contemporary rivals. Carl von Clausewitz and Napoleon Bonaparte considered him one of the greatest generals of all time. He was famed for consistency of purpose, and amity with his troops.
Wellington
Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG, GCB, GCH, PC, FRS (c. 1 May 1769 – 14 September 1852) was an Anglo-Irish British Army soldier and statesman, widely considered one of the leading military and political figures of the first half of the 19th century. Commissioned an ensign in the British Army, he rose to prominence in the Napoleonic Wars, eventually reaching the rank of field marshal.

Gustavus.
He gave more to the practice of warfare than Wellington did. He could fight aggressively or defensively. Like Wellington, he sometimes had to command unwilling or unreliable allies, but his victories (costly as they were) saved the world. Loved as he was by his men, Wellington cannot claim that status.

Adolphus for me. It's just to p.o. our English members. Actually I flipped a coin on this one, that's how close it was for me. I could not decide.

I favor Adolphus
1. His military reforms allowed the Swedish kings to reign supreme along the entire Baltic coast for nearly 70 years. This coming from a nation not gifted with many natural resources or farmland.
2. His contributions to military science.
a. Made cavalry into a hammer after meeting the Polish husaria, a shift that allowed his cavalry to repeatedly smash the Catholic cavalry.
b. Artillery pieces that support infantry formations, bringing more firepower to his infantry.
c. New infantry formations, which provided his soldiers with the tactical flexibility required to defeat the tercios
d. Standardized the powder and shot for the infantry, providing them with an easier means of re-loading and supply.
Plus, Wellington defeated Frederick. I must have revenge.

Wellington eh?
Nah, I still will go with the home team.
If good old Gustav secures a podium finnish, will I have the honour to place some kind of Armchairgeneral ribbon on one of his monuments?
The man himself pointing out where he wanted the town Gothenburg to be placed.
Or perhaps buy a round of Gustav Adolf pastries to the kind forum administrators?
Served every year since 1909 to commemorate his death
