It's unfortunate, but I'd have trouble voting for a Soviet commander given (maybe my perceived view) about their general indifference to casualties, though in Chuikov's case it was necessary in Stalingrad and a good spot for an attrition battle. Except Vasilevsky for Manchuria in 1945.

So Puller it is. A great guy to follow.

Had to go with Chuikov for this one.

I'm an American, and I really do like Chesty Puller, if for no other reason then the fact he's the most decorated Marine in history, and for his actions in Hati and Nicaragua. But Chuikov was just plainly the better general, and I have to give him the vote. Don't hurt me fellow Americans.

Puller never stopped caring for the lives of his men, even when surrounded by nine Chinese Divisions. He was still a big fan of hard training, because it saved lives. Puller wouldn't let anyone waste his Marines though: This is the man who prepared for and demanded permission to invade Mexico to get Marines out of a Tijuana prison!
