Too bad you can't find any Thai markings!!! That would be different. Did S. Korea have this jet also??

IIRC... the F-5 "Freedom Fighter" was sold in South America also.

I built a South Vietnamese 1/48 back in the 80's.

I'm pretty much decided on the Ethiopian F-5 now. An interesting desert scheme. It's hard to find references though. They only recieved 8 F-5E. I believe they were transfered to them by Iran. I don't think the US sent them any. So, the paint should be the same as an Iranian F-5E, but I am trying to figure out if the underside is grey (as with the Iranian version) or if they are camo all around.

Looks one color on the underside, Duncan.
By mid-1980s, the surviving Ethiopian F-5s and F-86s (operated by the 1st and 5th Sqn during the 1960s and 1970s, respectively) were little more than wrecks. In 1985 several F-5As and F-5Es were sold to Iran; the Iranians found the planes for which they paid $68 million in such a poor condition that they wanted to turn them back.

I have two figures, which are in parts and have to be assembled. I was ecstatic because they're easier to paint that way! They are drying right now. Had a hard time matching up the paint they wanted, the model store didn't have exactly the colors the figures were on the box, and the directions for colors were different than the figures on the box, so I looked at the box, and just mixed my own. They'll look fine, but maybe not historically accurate.

I think I'll roll the figures around in the dirt and sand when I'm done building anyway so they'll look salty...

Thanks.

Interesting, I have noticed that these (and the Iranians) don't have the common information markings. I've also noticed that the Iranian F-5E (and F) have absolutely identical schemes to the Ethiopian F-5E. Although the Ethiopian planes are much more worn and faded. I guess the Iranians painted over everything and just put nationality markings on them when they recieved them from the US. Then, they swapped out the nationality markings when they sent them to Ethiopia. So, I can use Iranian jets as my guide.

It's a cool looking craft and these are great pics. If it were me, I'd model this wreck just for fun. Something even differenter.

I've done a plastic parts count & come up with a confirmed 286 pieces. By the time I add decals, it'll be right around 300. When I add some other pieces (signal flags, maybe some fiber lighting, etc...) I estimate potentially reaching 325 - 350 pieces. Not bad...

I've got me books & archives out or open & figir I better do a good refresh on me recollections & resources. As I am effectively a bachelor for the next 2 weeks - I sent Tiniest Munchkin to Phoenix, though she's @ Disneyland in Anaheim today & tomorrow - I reckon I'll get a good start in the next couple days.

Hey, Duncan... I was gonna suggest a 'Dragnet' F-5, but I think it might have been a twin seat Talon in disguise. I thought that was a cool camo scheme on it, though.

Will do, Shaker! I won't know how to act not having to build this one standing while working on it & stowing it in me Areodynes top bunk. I did Big J's sister (USS Iowa) mostly on the road in me W900L. Josh was 5 at the time & quite the little 'hull tech' when he wasn't sacked out, or watchin toons on the tube. This one's as much for memories sake, as anything.

I can't imagine building in my bunk. Not nearly enough light and I'd be worried about breaking something while driving.
