I love that game. Of all the flight sims I've played it's my fav. I still need to get the other three though.

I can relate to that. I try to find some time both for modelling and this, as well as balancing family, work and everything else. My wife and son would likely both say I devote too much time to the computer and/or modelling and not enough to them. On some occasions at least, they'd probably be right and I have to remind myself about what's really important in life.

Hey mate...it's only 'quality' time if you're both enjoying it huh?
I hear you though...I usually get around two or three hours a few nights a week and maybe five or six hours every Friday night. I'm really into my modelling at the moment so I kinda don't want to 'waste' the motivation while I've got it...I do better work when I'm into it. My partner is very supportive of my hobby (s) so I feel quite lucky.

Thanks mate, what's even worse (for me) is choosing what to build, I loved tanks and still do, I'm going through a boat phase with several ships but for me tanks seem to come back! A diorama could be calling out for me.

I like vehicles but aircraft are my thing really. It's odd because weathering is my favourite part...you'd think tanks would be the go but lately I find with vehicle kits, they're so comprehensive that it takes me weeks to get to the part I really enjoy. I have three kits on the go...one aircraft for the group build and two vehicles. God...I even dream about modelling. Do you think it's time for professional help?

I absolutely love this sim! The only thing that makes me upset is the instant explosion in most cases of minimal contact between 2 planes. If you're lucky, just a wing will get torn off. The same with flying into a parachute. At the other hand, if you fly into a ship, nothing happens...
The jets in 1946 edition are pretty fun to fly, I prefer the Henkel among them. Among the traditional planes, Yak-9 is supreme, without doubt.

I know this is a OLD thread but I have a question, and instead of starting a new one I will ask it here.

I believe that IL 2 Sturmovik 1946 is capable of using a Joystick. I need to know how to hook it up. Right now I am using the arrow keys so it is hard to keep the plane level in flight.
I also want to know if there is a online instruction manual.
Any help would be great.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 will work perfectly well with a wide range of joysticks and flight control sets. If you purchase it, you should find a manual and keyboard/controls guide on the DVD. They are on my copy.

Be sure to calibrate it before start any flight sim, if you have Windows just go to Control Panel > Game Controllers and select which joystick you have with the list provided.... it's a generic setup but you can use just about any joystick that can be plugged into the PC.

I have been playing IL-2 Sturmovik since the original release in 2000 so this is the tenth year and I'm not stopping. I play with the Saitek X-52 and TrackIR head movement tracking.

To play IL-2 online you need to download the Hyperlobby software. Just do a Google or Yahoo search for Hyperlobby and it will find it in an instant. It's free. The Hyperlobby software is your best gateway to IL-2 online play. Just install Hyperlobby and then join various multiplayer battles that are listed there. It's as easy as clicking your choice with the mouse.

Hyperlobby takes over the launching of your Sturmovik game so you just sit back and wait until you're in your airplane seat. It's very smart.

When you launch Hyperlobby you start out in a ready room where people are chatting so you will be able to type questions.

I agree, the IL-2 series and in particular Forgotten Battles - 1946, arguably represent the best ever produced in WW2 combat flight sims. (I have other candidates in mind for WW1, for modern jet combat, and for combat helicopter.)
