Is that a Ferguson Rifle from the Revolutionary War? My first reaction was a Brown Bess, but the trigger guard is throwing me.

Judging by the bayonet, you're definately thinking of the right period.

It is indeed a Ferguson Rifle, invented by Patrick Ferguson. It was one of the first breechloading firearms, and a limited number were adopted by the British Army, but none were ever issued to the troops. Ferguson himself met his demise at the Battle of King's Mountain,in 1790. Ironicly he met his death at the hands of a colonist with a rifle.

Good Job. The Martini-Henry Mark IV Rifle. As Used by the British in Colonial campaigns, up into the late 1800s. It also saw use during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900-01.

You are correct about my signature. Here's a hint: this gun is a breechloader.
