Do you mean the one with the Corpsman with the unbelievable look on his face? Should have gotten someone the Pulitzer.

Leroy was one tough girl, she arrived in Nam in 1966 aged 21 and never hesited to go where the grunts were. The picture of her I posted was taken moments before she participated in the combat jump of the 173d Airborne Brigade during JUNCTION CITY. After that she joined the Marines at Khe Sanh and took those great pictures, and was wounded during that same battle.
Combat photogs are a special breed, they don't do it for money or fame and people like Capa who landed with the first wave on Omaha Beach or Leroy who assaulted Hill 881 have my respect any day.

Yes, these photographers brought real stories back to the folks at home, unlike many of the "war journalists" who waged their trade from the bars in Saigon. Far too many died. Leroy was also a "looker", would have loved to have met her back then . . .

Operation DAYTON begins. The 173d Airborne Brigade sent the 1/503 and 2/503 on this 12 day mission to search for the VC 274th and 275th Main Force Regiments in the May Tao Secret Zone of Phuoc Tuy Province. The Sky Soldiers maintained sporadic contact with the enemy. No major engagements occurred but they did find a large number of abandoned base camps and scattered bunkers throughout the AO.
