Try PM-ing peiro1971 (he's Swiss). All I know is they could call out around 600,000 militia pretty quickly.

Dziendobrien Petrus,

I will try to find you something... see thread on historical myths by the way...

start (if you read french) by this link:
http://hypo.ge-dip.etat-ge.ch/www/cl....mondiale.html

this has some info in the historical section:
http://www.armee.vbs.admin.ch/intern...e/en/home.html

here you'll find some links:
http://www.military.ch/

and this one has lots of info, but you have to read through
http://www.military.ch/RMS/default.html

what period you look for 1939, 1940, 1941 ? and what level of detail?

abd this:

This is from the Game Designers' Workshop (GDW) game Fall of France.

I Corps
1., 2. Infantry Divisions, 3. Mountain Division, 10. Mountain Brigade, 71., 75. Territorial Regiments, 1., 2. Border Brigades,67., 68 Border Regiments, 12., 22 Artillery Regiments, 1. Engineer Battalion

II Corps
4., 5. Infantry Divisions, 8. Mountain Division, 66., 78 Mountain Regiments, 3., 4., 5. Border Brigades, 73. 76. 86. Territorial Regiments, 13., 24. Artillery Regiments, 2. Engineer Battalion

III Corps
9. Mountain Division, 11., 12.Mountain Brigades, 9. Mountain Border Brigade, 60. 61. 62 Mountain Regiments, 78. Territorial Regiment, 65. Border Regiment

IV Corps
6., 7. Infantry Divisions, 6., 7., 8. Border Brigades, 9. Infantry Regiment, Mountain Fortress Division "Sargans", 35. Mountain Regiment, 14., 23., 25. Artillery Regiments, 3. Engineer Battalion

There are also 1., 2., 3. Light Brigades (horsed, cycle, some motorised troops)

I would be careful with the Territorial (Landsturm) troops--the sources I've seen show no tactical units larger than companies, and the game designers had a habit (which they freely admitted) of combining small independent units into larger ones that were more playable.

that I have no idea, but I would guess at the times, it would follow the french system.

most Swiss higher officers at the time 1910-1950 were from the french speaking part of Switzerland and all had been at school in French military academy. So i would guess - but not sure - that the tactical organisation would be similar to the french one. look at the pdf for some detail. the doctrine however was very different thatn the french one of course, due to terrain and the specific swiss fortifications in the mountains.

that ĢI must say I dont' have - need to look for it - as today army is under so much change that it is hard to knwo what is still left.

probably under www.armee.ch you'll find higher up organisations and units.

militia is significantly down from the times it could muster 650'000 fullly armed and equipped soldiers in less than 24hrs.

but there are still about 6 brigades I shoudl think. one armoured, one mech, two inf, two mountain + fortress troops + air defence. anti-terrorist group is tiny - platoon size. all should be on armee.ch

Bonjour, Guten Tag, Bongiorno Piero,

Thanks for the links - I am just looking into the websites.

As for the period that I am interested in, first of all the organisation of the Swiss army in the 1950s and 1960s is what I look info about. More specifically I would like to know some details (the more the better) about what was known as Truppenordnung 51 and Truppenordnung 61 (I can't recall the French equivalent of the term). So far I have gathered some info on the infantry but the light and mechanised troops still remain enigmatic to me.
It would be great to get to know something about how the light brigades, which were disbanded in the early 1960s, and then the mechanised divisions were being organised and equipped.

Piotr
