Amongst the Marines, by Stephen Preece

- my fiancee got it for me...so I have to read it. More about the process of becoming a Royal Marine than any historical info. Quite well written though

I started reading it about a week ago.
I've just reached the Torch landings (page 350 or so) and so far it's a pretty good read.
If I'm still around when I finish it, I'll definitely post my thoughts.

I read the Five fingers in 1979. Very fictionary and could have a slight possibility of being real... But doubtful. Took me a few days to read while on a Tank training exercise in Korea. So if you want to "waste" some time, then go ahead and read it.

I have 'wasted' my time on 3 or 4 different occaisions . Loved the book when
I was younger. I agree with you on the slight
possibility part! Fun read.

I just finished reading "Chester Wilmot Reports" which is mainly a bunch of Wilmot's more significant dispatches from Tobruk, Greece, and New Guinea. Very interesting stuff, especially his clashes with Blamey.

I'm currently reading The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire 1936-1945 by John Toland. The book won the Pulitzer Prize and I've read John Toland's stuff before. So far its a great read.

I've read both of these and do sugeest caution with 'conclusions' drawn by both generals (they were written in the 50s, after all). Good details on the German view and resources but somewhat suspect on 'the other side of the hill' aspect(especially now that so much more is known about the Russian front).
