According to this petition site they plan to demolish the vestry and use part of the nave for the museum. They've already locked the place up.

In the first pic at the top of the article, the aircraft to the left in front of the building certainly looks like a Spitfire.
However, the one to the right (partly concealed by foliage) certainly does not look like a Hurricane IMO.

As for the new project, I'm not sure what to think either except that if a substantial number of people whose opinions should count don't like certain aspects of the idea, then maybe all concerned should sit around a table and discuss how this can be fixed.
