ISIS and Hezbollah, a match made in hell.

Quote:

Following battles, media and political maneuvers, a bunch of speeches by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, the end result was disappointing or rather shocking.

This was more so as we saw ISIS fighters board huge “air-conditioned” buses from the Lebanese-Syrian border toward the far East in Syria, near Iraq, under the protection of Syrian forces and facilitations from the Lebanese Khomeini party accompanied with Red Crescent convoys. The deal angered the families of the Lebanese soldiers who have been abducted for years.
After ISIS guaranteed that its demands to safely exit under the regime’s protection to Abu Kamal and Deir az-Zour in East Syria will be met, it told Hezbollah where the dead Lebanese soldiers are buried. The Khomeini party then told the army command and the general security where the tombs are. All this is happening amid the families’ shock!
According to Hezbollah’s media, the ceasefire agreement stipulates that ISIS fighters and their families will be allowed to board buses to go to Syria. The convoys arrived to an exchange point in East Syria and from there, they will go to ISIS-controlled areas.
etails about these strange negotiations continue to reveal more and more. For example, we learnt that Hezbollah imposed its decision on the state to hand over three convicts from the Roumieh Prison in exchange of releasing a number of its fighters who were welcomed as heroes.

Iraqi troops are currently fighting ISIS on the borders with Syria where ISIS fighters have been warmly allowed to head as they exit the Lebanese Qalamoun area. This of course angers the Iraqis. Prime Minister Abadi rejected the deal and many Iraq writers and activists are furious and feel that Iraq’s interests are being disregarded.

All this shows a truth that some have always overlooked, and it’s that “all” armed Islamized groups that operate outside the state’s authorities, whether Sunni or Shiite, act the same and share the same culture that violates the state’s sanctity, sovereignty of law and prestige of the entity that governs everyone according to the constitution which is the only authority to abide by towards all of the society’s components.

This deal also signifies the Lebanese state’s weak control and sovereignty under the presidential term of Michel Aoun in particular – as it was claimed he will restore the republic’s power.
What’s more provoking is that following the Lebanese army’s honorable presence in the Jroud battles, the army was deprived of this glorious moment and Hezbollah, the armed religious group, appeared as the stronger party as it was the one who negotiated with the Syrian regime and arranged the deal’s details.

This scene truly exposes quite a lot.

Typical overblown puff-piece by al-Arabiya.
The transport of ISIS fighters and their families from their enclave on the Lebanon-Syrian border is nothing new. The Syrian authorities have pursued the same tactic with Jihadi fighters and their families on numerous occasions in the past year. The reason for this is both simple and sound. The greatest problem for the Syrian military in the past has been its inability to concentrate it forces as they are strung out across the country containing numerous Jihadi/ISIS pockets and enclaves - a situation requiring a greater number of Syrian + allied forces to be employed in containment compared to the number of guerillas and fanatics being contained. The solution has been to concentrate what forces they have had on a single enclave and eventually compelling the rebel forces to agree to surrender their weapons and agree to being moved along with their families to a single collection area under enemy control. In the past, this has involved transporting Jihadis from numerous areas around Damascus and sending them off to rebel-held Idlib. The benefit to the Syrian authorities is that as the number of rebel-held enclaves have diminished the Syrian military has been able to concentrate it forces on a reduced front. The process has also led to the rebels surrendering all of their heavy weapons and military supplies in the relevant locations while allowing the Syrian military to avoid a pitched battle to the death against the fanatics. The "deal" with ISIS was more of the same as it put an end to the fighting in the mountains along the Lebanese-Syrian border, involved ISIS handing over all their weapons, and freed up a numerically larger number of Syrian and Hezbollah troops who can now be used for combat operations on more important sectors of the front - for instance, the relief of Deir ez-Zor, besieged by ISIS for almost 5 years now. I might add, that I recall the Iraqis doing something similar with ISIS in the past.

Only a matter of time before ISIS takes root somewhere else.
They had them contained, they should have destroyed them.
Hezbollah is a Iranian front group, follow the money...

They were being sent to Deir- ez-Zor province - where their compatriots are presently being destroyed by SAA + friends. There is no other place for them to go.

Sounds like Assad, Hezbollah and Iran are trying to salvage what's left of ISIS

Quote:
Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Thursday he travelled to Damascus to meet Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to request the evacuation of ISIS fighters from their enclave on the Syria-Lebanon border.

The evacuation convoy left the border area late on Monday to take about 600 ISIS fighters and family members to the territory the group controls in eastern Syria, but it was blocked from entering ISIS areas on Wednesday by US-led air strikes.
Meanwhile, the ISIS group has handed over the body of a recently captured Iranian Revolutionary Guard member as part of a deal that allowed hundreds of extremists and their families to evacuate the Lebanon-Syria border region.

The Lebanese Hezbollah group, which negotiated the controversial deal, said Thursday it had received the body of Mohsen Hojaji and would conduct DNA tests before sending his remains onward to Iran. The handover was reported by the Hezbollah-run Al-Manar TV.

The evacuation deal, in which the militants also revealed the locations of the remains of Lebanese soldiers captured in 2014 in exchange for safe passage to an ISIS-held area in Syria near the Iraqi border, angered Iraq and the US-led coalition, which said ISIS militants should be killed on the battlefield.

US airstrikes on Wednesday blocked the convoy of evacuees, which includes some 300 fighters and as many civilians, without targeting the evacuees themselves.

Rami Abdurrahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said some ambulances that were part of the ISIS convoy were able to cross into ISIS-held territories in Syria. He added that Hojaji’s body was released after the ambulances carrying wounded ISIS militants made it to areas held by the extremists.

ISIS recently released a video showing its gunmen capturing a position manned by Iranian-backed fighters on the Syrian-Iraqi border. Hojaji was shown being captured alive and taken into a vehicle. Later footage shows his decapitated body.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said earlier this week that the deal would include the handover of a Hezbollah fighter held by ISIS as well as the bodies of two Hezbollah members and Hojaji. Both Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and Hezbollah are fighting alongside Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces.

He added that the group is exploring secret ways in which the convoy can cross into ISIS-held areas without being targeted by the US-led coalition.

Coalition spokesman Col. Ryan Dillon said that they continue to monitor the buses. He said he could not confirm whether any ambulances made to ISIS-held areas.

“The buses have not made it to ISIS-held territory and we will stick with what we said yesterday and that is we can strike ISIS elements without harming civilians whenever and wherever we will,” Dillon said. He added that they struck several vehicles in ISIS-held parts of Syria overnight.

Responding to the Iraqi criticism, Nasrallah said in a statement that negotiating with the militants was the “only way” to resolve the “humanitarian and national” issue of finding the remains of nine Lebanese soldiers that the militants kidnapped in 2014.

The Hezbollah leader received a letter of support on Thursday from Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq’s state-sanctioned Popular Mobilization Forces, expressing support to the Lebanese leader, according to Al-Manar.

So, I guess when the SDF and and the US airforce allowed the remnants of ISIS to leave the city of Manbij unmolested in a 500-vehicle convoy last summer they were also trying to salvage what was left of ISIS..
