Has anyone mentioned the CH-47 Chinook? It is a plane (of sorts), and unlike the venerable DC-3s which ere beloved flying museum pieces, it is still out there on the front lines, and won't be retiring anytime soon, and arguably a damn sight more tactically useful than the BUFF.

P-80/T-33 has served longer than the Hunter and the Canberra. IIRC, the Bolivian Air Force still flies T-33s.

MiG-15? Did I read somewhere that North Korea still flies them?

Good pair there.

Throw in civilian users and the warbird circuit and both are still winging.

It ended up with the C47 vs the C130 and the C47 won.
Exactly.

And likely will take another decade or two (or more) for the DC-3/C-47 to fade to non-flying status and let the C-130 pull the honor.

Interestingly we are less than two decades from the DC-3's centennial.

Good third runner after the Gooney and the Herc.

I saw F100s quite often in the early 70s and I thought also T33/P80s with the Air National Guard
...I wonder if Bolivia bought or made parts for them?
..there are a lot of forces on the airplanes....
hot to cold, cold to hot
take-offs-landings
etc
so, I'm amazed these planes are still going..

Sorry, but when a legend turns up.....
Yup I'm rather partial to these haulers. I actually had the privilege of jumping from one about twenty years ago.

There are still a few F-104's in commercial, if not military use, though with the starfighter continued operational existence always seems to be a precarious situation.

17s, 21s and 29s but no 15s.

How much flying time do the pilots get?

Most likely but the criteria doesn't say just US nor combat operations. Huey still wins.

...but not ''many'' used now... very surprising to see these aircraft being used into the 21st century...thanks for the post--I didn't know about the 104
..I did build a model of it long ago....maybe because it was cheap, ....I don't recall making too many models of other jets
