You might take your own advice. Even if it's bad so very often.

I'd think the EW's aboard would love a chance to play with their gear and collect Sigint on the Russian jammer(s). The SLQ 32(V2) system includes ESM for several bands of signal. Collecting the jamming attempts would be pure gold for them.

Happens here all the time, HP. You know that.

Can't blame the Navy - they don't make the rules of engagement. Spineless politicians do.

Always and every chance they get. But, it's only between them, and it's never meant for real. It's when an outsider, or a fraud, tries that $h!+. That's when it gets ugly.
If you've been there, done that, you can talk all the $h!+ you want about your brother veterans, whatever service they were in, whatever job they did. And, they'll hand it back to you with interest. But, you weren't there, weren't part of things, then STFU and stay out of the conversation.

this supposedly happened a few days after my ship left the black sea.

i only heard about this report a year-year and a half ago, and there is no video of the ship sitting DIW. shouldn't be to hard to pull off...taking pictures of a disabled ship.

there are also reports of crew members tweeting/FBing about it, but i've never seen a screen shot of the posts to identify these supposed crew members so they could be verified as real sailors actually on board the ship during that time period.

to be fair if it was a threat and had anything on its wings to use against them, it would have been too late to shoot it down had the russian pilot had hostile intent.

Been there done that. Enterprise off Alaska in like December 1984 (IIRC). I remember walking aft on the hanger deck to berthing after a watch. Looked out through the cracked open 4 elevator door and watched one of the small boys submerge to the bridge in a wave. I thought Ha! They're having cold cuts for dinner!

The admiral with the BG thought it was a good idea to prove carriers and such could operate in the artic in the winter. Midway was with us and she was taking green water over the bow and couldn't launch or land. Some of her planes had to use our deck.
