It's no strawman, I meant that sincerely, if a bit bitterly.
Any large media outlet has critics who will dismiss its words as nothing but propaganda on the basis of a fallacy. You've seen people dismiss stories by Russian sources for being nothing but Putin's manipulation at work, and this is no different.
It's not that it's not got a grain of truth in there, its that it is pushed to cover all articles one may disagree with. It's become shorthand for dealing with stories one doesn't want to listen to, which has two negative consequences: the chicken little effect hides real bias by painting it all with a broad brush, and it also makes true articles carry the stink of contamination to hide real content.
How many times have we need negative articles about American or Russian interests be dismissed on those grounds alone by others? It's made even the discussion of events difficult, because there is enough "evidence" to toss all related stories into the same trash bin.
There can't be discussion or debate without common ground, and as long as everything is pushed into those categories, well, then it just becomes similar to a religious argument.
