Putin says US will have to shed 755 from diplomatic staff

Quote:
MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday the United States would have to cut its embassy and consulate staff in Russia by 755 under new sanctions from Moscow.

Russian’s Foreign Ministry on Friday ordered a reduction by Sept. 1 in the number of U.S. diplomatic personnel in Russia. It said it is ordering the U.S. Embassy to limit the number of embassy and consular employees in the country to 455 in response to the U.S. Senate’s approval of a new package of sanctions.

“We had hoped that the situation will somehow change, but apparently if it changes, it won’t be soon,” Putin said in an interview televised on Rossiya 1, explaining why Moscow decided to retaliate. “I thought it was the time to show that we’re not going to leave it without an answer.”

Russia is open to cooperating with the U.S. on various issues, including terrorism and cybercrime, but instead it “only hears unfounded accusations of meddling in U.S. domestic affairs,” he said.

Putin is a bad guy but ever time Russia gets a semi good guy leader it implodes. It is hard to have much of an opinion other than sanctions don't work they only hurt the little people in dictatorships. Of course we had ample proof during the Obama administration that the democrats don't care about the deplorables (Les Miserables).

Well the Democrats have managed to now hurt the Russians feelings with all their false claims of election meddling. Shame on all those jackasses.

Well once they have been turned into robots at the Marxist indoctrination camps (universities) they aren't much good for anything but a government welfare job. Can't let a miseducation go to waste. At least it reduces the number that become diversity mangers messing up private businesses or subverting meritocracy some other way.

Great way of saving money.

So much for the Trump/Putin friendship as the Democrats would like for you to believe.

The bureaucracy must expand to meet the needs of the growing bureaucracy.

Most of the employees are Russians and they are the ones who will have to be dismissed from their jobs. According to Reuters:

Quote:
As of 2013, the U.S. mission in Russia, including the Moscow embassy and consulates in St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok, employed 1,279 staff, according to a State Department Inspector General's report that year. That included 934 "locally employed" staff and 301 U.S. "direct-hire" staff.

U.S. embassy in Moscow says locked out of diplomatic property

Quote:
MOSCOW (Reuters) - The U.S. embassy in Moscow accused Russian authorities on Monday of barring diplomatic staff from a property on the outskirts of Moscow, after having earlier agreed to grant access until midday on Tuesday for them to retrieve belongings.

A Russian foreign ministry official, quoted by state news agency RIA, said the U.S. embassy had sent in its trucks without first obtaining permits which, the official said, are required by law because the property is in a conservation area.

The property, in a picturesque spot on a bend in the Moskva river northwest of the capital, is leased by the U.S. embassy for its staff to use for recreation.

Moscow has said it is taking it back as part of retaliatory measures after Washington approved a fresh round of sanctions against Russia.

We should send Putin a thank-you note. Somebody finally managed to reduce a bloated bunch of pampered staffers.
Good heavens, some of them might have to get their own coffee now!

But it makes me wonder.... damn .... how many office geeks do we have in the cushy places, like Paris, Rome, the Caribbean?
Just those three probably mean tens of thousands of these guys.

I imagine it's not just supposed to be a slap in the face for Trump, a bit of a public shaming that sells well at home after American sanctions were approved very publicly, but would also help impact the CIA and American support for NGOs the Russians consider unfriendly to their interests. Mostly the former, of course - like with the lock out as well.

Diplomats on both sides, both Russian and American, are engaged in espionage, so from Putin's standpoint it's probably good for his country.

And how many US embassies have you been in?

Or, have you been a Foreign Service Officer or other official in a US embassy?

Or, which is more probable, you're talking through your hat once again?

Seems to me that if you needed help overseas and had trouble getting it at a US embassy or consulate, you'd be among the first to come crying.
