Canadian sniper picks off ISIS target from 2.14 miles

Quote:
A Canadian sniper has beat the record for the longest confirmed kill in military history by picking off an ISIS fighter from a staggering 11,319 feet. The bullet was fired from a McMillan TAC-50 rifle set on a high-rise tower and took 10 seconds to travel the 2.14 miles towards the fighter, who was attacking Iraqi soldiers. This smashed the last record set by a Briton Craig Harrison, who killed a Taliban soldier with a 338 Lapua Magnum rifle at a range of 8,120 feet(1.54 miles) in 2009.

Honestly that can't be practical even if it is amazing. 10 seconds is a long time for anyone to stand still.

Can anyone show us what the view through the snipers scope in such a situation looks like?

It appears that the standard scope is a 16x. The target would still appear very small. I wonder if it was one shot or they walked the shots onto the target?

Probably a frontal shot and the ISIS fighter was an XXXXL. No wind that day with mild temperature.

If the shot is technically possible and enough shots are made, eventually there will be a hit. Great skill from the sniper, but also much credit to the arms industry for making weapons that makes these shots technically possible.

No need for snide comments....A certain amount of luck sure...BUT if this had been a shot taken by any member of the US forces..god!! you would be having a parade down Wall St...but a good shot taken by another forces member is just shoved off to one side as ...."so what"!!.....considering the three longest shots to date have been taken by other than US forces.....

Lighten up guy and say "good shooting"

What I find remarkable is that the spotter could pick the target out at that distance in the first place.

No, I would have posted the same, dip. You should do the math. What I posted was more likely than your Monday morning quarterbacking. Lucky shot, Francese.

“The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces,” an source confirmed for the Globe and Mail. The action was taken under the auspices of the Canadian government’s “advise and assist” mission. “Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn’t have a clue what was happening.”

Results matter.
