Starmaster One
Yil'chara rises from his seat at the senor console and begins walking back to the airlock to meet the new rescuees. Then Gman slams his hand down on the emergency hatch control, shutting it inches in front of his face. Yil'chara looks to him in confusion, then hears him speaking urgently over the internal comms with his eyes on a screen. "Commander! We have boarders, and one of them is aiming at your back!" Through the clear panel in the hatch, Yil'chara sees the airlock into the bay cycle open and the Maintenance Bot sucked off the deck, bouncing off the far wall and disappearing from view. Two figures in (lightly) armored vac suits appear through the hatch and move rapidly up to the bridge hatch. They pull the lever - but Yil'chara gets there first, holding down the manual override to keep the bridge hatch sealed against vacuum and boarders alike.

In the open bay, Pruitt sees the cargo arm retract and reach up towards the inner airlock. After a few beats he turns with an expectant smile - and sees the marine smoothly side-stepping to avoid the great arm, maintaining her aim. "This doesn't have to turn violent," she says over local comms. "We appreciate the pickup - but we're still taking your ship." The marine steps forward as the arm swings past again. "Tell your friend to quit playing silly buggers with the cargo arm, or I will fire." That is when the maintenance bot comes whirling into view, utility arms flung out as it attempts to grab hold of something - anything! Its course momentarily takes it between the marine and Pruitt - giving the latter a brief moment to act without inviting penetrator rounds to his suit.

Patna
"For a short time, yes - I don't have an independent air supply outside the cockpit though. Can I go through your airlock? Or do you have something I can hook up to out here?" He seems genuinely eager to be as little trouble as possible, no doubt partly due to the callous reputation some Scavengers have given to the overall group. It won't look good on his record, but a good record is cold comfort to a dead man. On a continuing no-power glide, the stealthy charcoal vessel is rapidly approaching the Believer but (so far) has avoided triggering any response from surviving onboard sensors.

Kuroitori
Ren abandons her sensor analysis at Mugen-san's change in focus, bringing the (slightly less balanced) black craft around to perform a second swan dive in toward the flank of the Assault Carrier. Again the point defense responds with a withering hail of point defense lasers; a cascading red energyfall that chases her all the way in. Mugen is standing at the open cargo hatch once more, and some of the shots come close enough to illuminate him as he launches himself out into space. This time his dive is executed perfectly, and he drops neatly through the opening as the Skandian fire pursues Blackbird back out of range. One hand on the hangar bulkhead, he is able to steer to land neatly atop the Skandian shuttle and his boots magnetize on contact. From there he can see five armed vacsuited individuals fanning out across the hangar - and at the base of the assault shuttle's open ramp, a bulky nine-foot figure in what appears to be an armored exosuit. It carries an extremely large hand-gun, and also a six-foot boarding pike with a spiked end.

[OOC: Aware this deviates somewhat from the projected course of events for the Starmaster One - took the clearly expressed intent and modified it for NPC actions.]

Commander Pruitt keys his microphone and says "Don't be absurd. We are unarmed and you are in a hostile system. We have already been hailed by local Fighters once. If we don't play this right, they will be back expecting to board. It is to our advantage that there are other scavenger ships in this debris field. We are just going to fill our hold and go.

I don't know if your fleet has contingency plans for Search and Rescue, but with us, you have a chance of getting to a neutral station or system. Before we happened on you, you were dead. Now you want to risk death again?

Right now your friends are on the wrong side of the door and it has been latched from inside. We are open to Vacuum and you do not have unlimited air. If you don't lay down your weapons we only have to leave the Hatch Door open until you run out of air. My partners will be sad to see me go, but they have orders not to yield to Blackmail. So if you are going to shoot me, go ahead and shoot. I have more important things I could be doing. Talk it over with your friends."

Perched atop the Skandian assault shuttle, Mugen quickly and quietly draws both of his pistols and engages the targeting systems in his enhancements as he aims for the Skandian marine in the exo suit. Bracing himself for the recoil, Mugen opens fire upon the man in the exo suit with a vengeance, doing his best to bring him down as quickly as possible in a short amount of time. Before any survivors can give accurate return fire, Mugen rolls towards the exo suit marine and fires his .50 caliber pistol as he drops the smaller caliber pistol and draws his vibroblade to pierce the suit and kill the man inside the suit if he isn't dead already. Careful to avoid any counterattacks and making sure to use his better speed and maneuverability rather than strength.

"I sure hope you can make up your mind quickly. We have one of your people we picked up a while ago in a Crews Quarters Room. When your two friends opened the door without shutting the Hold and pressurizing it, the vacuum sucked all the Oxygen out of that section. If you lay down your arms and I get more air in here, he may still have a chance? His death will be on your heads, not mine. Have your friends check the bunks if you don't believe me.

If you will excuse me, I have to get that Maintenance Robot back inside before he is gone for good."

We can probably rig up something to keep you breathing for a while. There is no airlock proper but if your suit is still intact you won’t die even if you are uncomfortable and bored.

"Actually, I need to get back in the cockpit anyway. Can't stay on the remote when things start to get dicey... and you will need me on the big arm when you find the good stuff."

I make the pilot get rid of the external gear on his suit, including the weapons. He can stuff all that in his own cockpit and close it up.

"You will be keeping your suit on in my ship, and if you reach inside it for any reason, back out you go."

And what that means is he is sitting in a seat w/o a restraining belt, unlike Richie.

Let's go hunting for some nice avionics!

One of the Marines inside lopes up to the bridge hatch and applies a small adhesive patch with a coil close to the catch. There is a tag close to the coil's end, and as Yil'chara watches the marine yanks it off and the coil begins to glow. "Helmet, Gman!" he shouts, hurriedly donning and tagging his own. A flash of light sears through the metal and the atmosphere begins to gust out through the now-unlocked hatch. Yil'chara crouches to one side of the door, his weapon in hand... but the marines aren't coming, and over local (unencrypted) comms comes a single word signal. "Wait."

That signal given, the marine standing off with Commander Pruitt bats away the suddenly motionless cargo arm with hers. "You do have a point, if not as much of one as you seem to think. This is a hostile system, none of my men are pilots and we'd actually like to get back to our fleet alive. We can likely fly this thing out of the system, but we won't be outrunning any Skand fighters any time soon. And what do we want with a ship? What we need is a ride back to Fourth Fleet. If you already have a cover with the Skands, we can use that. Agree to our terms, and we can play ball. But we're not on your crew, and we're not disarming." She snorts audibly. "Would you?"

Bounding up from the roof of the shuttle, Mugen successfully twists in mid-air and sticks a landing on the hangar ceiling. Extending both arms out above his head, he opens fire on the armor-suited marine with his .50 caliber and captured pistol alike. The shots land soundlessly, and successive impacts on the left shoulder see the heavy pistol wielding arm go limp, ranged weapon still locked in its digits. The other marines around the hangar respond then, locating Mugen's position on the roof and bringing up their rifles. The Nihon-jan has waited for this and he launches himself at the power-suit, abandons his captured pistol and draws a vibroblade. That's when a trio of penetrators rip into the right arm of his suit, throwing him off course as he leaks blood and atmosphere into the vacuum. His arm useless now (and rapidly chilling to numb), he loses his .50 cal pistol and spins uncontrollably to impact the floor three metres to the power-suit's left side. It turns and jabs with the pike, but fails to rip the intruder's suit further.

The pilot accepts Richie's terms, taking a deep breath from his remaining air as he pops the hatch and abandons his craft (with intact avionics, if unpowered), stripping off his side-arm and omnitool before he makes his way up into the cockpit and is tethered to the emergency air supply. Intimidated, he keeps his arms well in view, and makes no attempt to touch Lawrence's usual control suite. Once Richaundra is back at her own console, she can detect two possible candidates for avionics suites close by - a badly broken Skandian fighter and a Skandian utility shuttle. At this range she can also detect an incandescent point of focused energy, somewhere in or nearby the broken bridge area on the Believer.

"Maybe we can compromise on your weapons? Unload them and you can keep them. You will not be allowed on the bridge. We can offer a ride Home, or at least to a pick up point where you can get home. Now we have to do some quick repair of the door your men cracked and then we will put some more salvage into our hold. If we get it, the Skandians don't get it.

We need to put some air into the Crew Quarters and then retrieve my Maintenance Robot. We will also need to repair the door.

While we finish up making a load you and the others can clean up and get some food in the galley."

"Oh snap... Lawrence, are you seeing that? Either somebody is already there, or something is about to go seriously wrong on that flagship. Let's go for the little guys first."
And first will be the fighter, we can latch on to that and drag it to the Shuttle, claiming them both before anyone else does.
Thats a wonderful thing about this ship's bay; instead of taking time to pick certain components out we can just tear off whole sections and stash them & still have room for more, quickly.

"I'm so glad you are being reasonable about this." She says to the rescued pilot. "But why did you try to send us out after dud missiles? We aren't the bad guys, just trying to make a living, you grok*?"

*just trying to re-use an old sci-fi term from Stranger in a strange Land.
It kinda means 'understand", can can be used like "you dig me?" was in the 1960s?

Since we're starting to get into combat, let me explain the damage system. It's really really simple:

It's a 3 strikes system. First hit, you can shrug it off. 2nd Hit, you'll need some sort of medical attention but you're still functional to one degree or another. 3rd Hit.....you're either crippled or dead.

Some catastrophic blows will ignore 1 and go straight to 2. And if you do something mind-blowingly stupid, you can jump straight to 3.

Just to make sure,

Gman is with me on the bridge, 3 potentially hostile marines are inside my cargo hold.

Pruit is across on the prize ship, held at gun point from *inside* the cargo hold.

The door (hatch) between the hold and the bridge is blown up and defunct, but the cargo doors are open and functional - right ?

[wouldn't this kill our fourth passenger in the guest quarter ?]

What info do we have on the marines weapons and other equipment ?

If nothing - run a detailed scan now.

In particular, race, type of weapons, ammo, and duration of their life support.

The Commander is on the end of the Cargo Hold, with one of the grateful people we just rescued. Two of her friends tried to get to the Bridge by entering the Crew Quarters. This depressurized the Crew Quarters and sucked all the air out. Now we have a burn hole in the door to the Bridge.

Your character was holding the button on the door to the Bridge, keeping it closed.

I think we have an agreement to drop them off somewhere after we get a full hangar of salvage.

Yes it is. He is dead or getting there quickly. We need shut the Door to the Hangar and put pressure back in the Crew Quarters and Bridge. Then we can fix the Bridge Door. If you want to see a floor plan of a Starmaster there is one on page 124 of Cortex Shipyards Volume 1. I have tried to download this so I can post it in the Social Group, but it won't download to where I can post.

Commander Pruitt, Navy, ret.
