Mugen decides to make his entry into the portside hangar bay that has been opened to space, making sure to carry both pistol and vibroblade with him in case his prey decides they want to fight back. His main focus is to find some long range scout or capable craft that has a jump drive or could be modified to fit one. Mugen also directs Ren through his implants to continue scanning the ship and keep an eye on the work party or whatever they are.

Some quick "You already know this" info on the ships you're dealing with:

Skandian Assault Carrier:

Crew of 3000, including up to 200 Marines. Typical "Wing" of 100 Strikefighters and 20 other craft (shuttles, scout fighters, etc). The backbone of the Skandian fleet, an Assault Carrier is well armored (though nothing like a Penumbrian Dreadnought) but relatively lightly armed for space combat, relying on its best in class fighter wing housed in its positively cavernous hangar bays to both protect it and project power. Skandian Strikefighters are renowned as the most maneuverable and fastest strikefighters in the known galaxy.....though Nihon-Jan fighters are by far the toughest.

Konflets "Believer-Class" Battlecruiser:

Typically deployed as flagship for Crusader fast squadrons, and sometimes for entire fleets, the Believer class is a very typically Konflets design. Crewed by 2700 men, with a solid third of her crew willing, trained, and able to function as Marines in attack or defense, she's armed with a formidable array of long range missile tubes backed by 6 devastating Gauss Turrets, the massive railguns able to rip even into Dreadnought armor at medium and short range. Of course her focus on ship to ship combat and speed means that she lacks the armor plating of other ships of similar size, and her anti-fighter suite is pitiful by the standards of say Penumbria or Nihon-Ja. Following the Konflets conventions of the Crusader Captain Leading rather than managing his ship and boarding parties, the main hull has a small hangar bay for a half dozen boarding shuttles and smallcraft on a tower, topped by the bridge decks. While this puts the bridge in an exposed position, the Crusaders consider it an honor to have the position of greatest danger, and the location means the Captain always has his finger on the pulse of the battle, with additional sensors on top of an amazing visual field of view, and the lack of a penetration of the main hull for a hangar means it is very structurally rigid. Occasionally, Battlecruisers are found to be equipped with sacred items to the Crusade, these familiar yet alien shielding systems that run on equally rare power cells but provide a short lived impenetrable defense.

"Patna" arrives

(that is the call sign we are using currently, I'll hear from Tsar about the name one of these days)
--I would have posted this sooner if I was able, but I'm back now--

A 30-meter torpedo of non-reflective grey enters the debris fields in a silent search-mode. Not even an exterior light is showing, and the bridge is also dim to allow visual search of the most basic sort.
And searching they are, with passive sensors searching for any residual energy, the sort of energy batteries will give off. This hunter is hungry, but it wants it's first meal to be a tasty one... with a cargo bay nearly half the length of the ship, there is plenty of room for more mundane stuff later on.
There is nothing in that bay now aside from a JIM suit, mounted on the bulkhead wall so that it can be entered through it's back directly from the cabin. Instead of mucking around with an oversized air-lock, a simple hatch is all we need for this.

Richaundra pilots the Patna and keeps an eye out for blips on the sensor screens. Her nickname "Richie" lead to some confusion and a meeting with Lawrence, who's middle name happens to be Richard. She smiles at him and nods to the central mapping console. "We have company, our sort of folks."

Other scavengers are noted and avoided as a matter of routine. The authorities can't cover all of space at the same time, and the scavenger that draws attention first can distract them long enough for the rest to escape.
Generally speaking, that is.
If a whole fleet shows up, anything at all might happen.

Shiny! Now all we need is Snowy to check in today!

I want GMan to start cutting into the hull while I disconnect and move the computer banks so we can get them out. Snowy will monitor sensors and alert us if anyone starts to move in.

Yil'chara will take position at the sensor station.

Scan for heat, movement and radiation to start with, the prize ship itself, but also the surroundings.

"Sorry for the delay commander, connection should be solid now.."

"GMan" (a nick-name courtesy of a mishap during pilot training) vectors the Light Transport in close to the Crusader segment and extends the plasma torch to begin the slow process of burning through cruiser hull specificially designed to resist penetration.

Meanwhile Yil'chara makes his way from securing their new guest (he seems grateful, but no sense in taking chances) and began scanning the area for nearby contacts. Over a few minutes he identifies a pair of shattered Konfleti destroyers surrounded by pieces of fighters, still spinning (and in some cases, burning) in the void. There are a couple of interesting prospects nearby, fighters that look relatively intact and should have useful salvage. There are more life signs showing on the destroyers, and beyond them both is the distinctive and hulking shape of a slightly deformed Believer Battlecruiser.

Pruitt carefully eases his way into the room, propelling himself clear of the floor and all metal surfaces until he is able to sever the main cable conduit into the room and cut the electrical discharges. The energy signals in the sensor/computer bank slowly fade to a residual background level as he uses a combination of physical force and his diagnostic skills to separate the useful computer banks from the damaged remainder - five server banks in all, before the hull behind the computers begins to glow at a point low on the right-hand side.

Kuroitori
Ren acknowledges her employer's orders with a bubble of excitement in her voice that pierces the imperturbable exterior she usually presents to the world. Mugen may or may not be the same as a "real live Wraith", but he's close enough for most. The Nihon-Ja vessel dives in towards the Assault Carrier, and again flashing beams of point defense lasers rise once the vessel crosses the inner sensor threshold. They flash back and forth in Kuroitori's wake, but Ren's evasive manuvers keep the craft (barely) out of harm's way all the way in to a close-range kick-turn that helps launch Mugen on his way. The engines look ominously close when they blaze back to life, but the human projectile arcs safely away and impacts onto the hull. Before he can fly away he digs his vibroblade into one armature and pushes himself down to slip into the hangar.

Still in microgravity, he lands beside a crumpled fighter wing and looks around the interior. Lit by orange emergency lighting, the hangar bay is as clear as day to his enhanced vision. Other than the strike fighter that collected the last of the damage that tore open the hull, the other eleven fighters in the bay appear intact. There are two figures standing close to the aft personnel hatch with a glowing actinic light, and two others bent over one of the fighters who straighten at the sudden arrival. A blat of signal comes over the comm waves as Mugen receives an all-frequencies broadcast.

"Halt! Who goes there!"

Patna
The lengthy grey torpedo slides into the debris fields using only passive and visual sensors to pick up any local emanations. Richie detects a few dying signals, a couple of manned escape pods and a fluctuating energy signature inside a broken Crusader piece - but when they close on that last it already appears to have a civilian freighter close by and Patna steers away. Moving past the shredded prow of a destroyer, they come up beside a spinning derelict fighter. The ends of both guns have been melted to slag and a wing is shot off, but the fighter's engines and capacitors are intact and accessible from the exterior. Closing, Richie observes the pilot seems to still be alive and watching Patna's approach from his cockpit - devoid of any signs of light.

Beyond the spinning fighter, the sensors pick up a number of fighters in worse condition, the largely intact rear third of a Konfleti destroyer and the distinctive shape of a Believer flagship - except where the reinforced bridge always is, instead is a crater.

All

Those characters monitoring sensor stations notice a wing-pair of Skandian strike fighters cruising into your area. They appear to be patrolling the debris field and scanning for threats.

Mugen ignores the order to halt without even a thought as his .50 caliber pistol is fluidly drawn from its holster with the quickness and ease of a master gunslinger. The comm waves are used to broadcast a quick and painfully loud screech of noise as Mugen opens fire on the group of Skandians using the targeting recticle from his implants. Even as he opens fire he attempts to close the distance while maintaining cover to get close enough to use his vibroblade. Mugen tries to take at least one alive for questioning.

"Commander Pruit, home base calling,..."

"I have life signs on two nearby destroyers, attempting to make contact now."

"Also several smaller, abandoned contacts that maybe interesting to check out later."

"....and a live patrol of two Skandian fighter/bombers coming in..."

Yil'chara will attempt to make contact with both the incoming patrol and the lifesigns on the destroyers, sending standard ID and greetings, using radio or in case of no reaction, light and morse code.

Well... I really should wait for my partner before saying anything.
It is so inconvenient finding a live guy, that seems to be the end of the profit right there.

One question - is that a Skandia fighter, or one of those other bastards?

Well boss it looks like we have a live one. I suppose we should reel him in to keep him alive. Of course if we want to move him in from the cargo bay it will cut down in the rest of our salvage but oh well.

Fighters are small and short ranged. You would need a Carrier to take them long distances. On the other hand they are great for in system defense.
