USAF seeks a new A-10.

The Air Force is beginning to work on how fast, lethal, durable and capable a new “A-10”-like aircraft would need to be in order to provide U.S. military ground troops with effective close-air support for decades to come.
Senior service officials are now exploring “draft requirements” concepts – and evaluating the kind of avionics, engineering, weapons, armor and technical redundancy the aircraft would need, Air Force officials told Scout Warrior.
Many of the core technical attributes and combat advantages of the A-10 will be preserved and expanded upon with the new effort, officials said.
The performance of the A-10 Warthog in the ongoing bombing campaign against ISIS, coupled with the Air Forces’ subsequent decision to delay the aircraft’s planned retirement – has led the service to begin the process of developing a new, longer-term A-10 type platform.

Well, they need to address the A-10s weaknesses, which are a lack of all-weather and night operations.

The electronics are dated, too.

I expect the airframe as designed could contain the updated packages required.

Well, there's a number of things that could be done to upgrade an A-10 replacement.

Incorporate some degree of "stealth" capability reducing its electronic and IR signature to enemy systems.
Incorporate advances in armor that make the plane more resistant to damage.
Better integrate sensors and other electronics into the design.
Add an ability to integrate into other sensor and C3I systems. A capability to use Army as well as Air Force off platform sensor systems to find targets would be highly useful.
Add an ability to be used as a forward observer platform for targeting by other systems.
The performance envelope could be expanded... a lot. While the plane needn't be supersonic, being able to make 500 knots in level flight would be useful for reducing transit times.

Good news but we all know that the biggest problem with CAS is that the USAF has the mission. Before any new aircraft the mission needs to be taken from the USAF and handed over to US Army Aviation.

Can't. The US Army can't operate fixed wing aircraft.

But otherwise you are right: the USAF does not take CAS seriously enough.

I all ways liked what Arma 3 did with the A10. Game set in 2037 and still the A10 flys with a new airframe.

That can be changed whether it takes the stroke of the Secretary of Defense's pen or an act of Congress it needs to be done for the USAF should've never given the CAS job in the first place.

That's just crazy talk! Next you'll want to give vertical insertion capability to the Army! Man, do you hear yourself when you talk?

Act of Congress. It is in the charters.

Like the jarhead pilots at Saipan who came home with palm branches in the intakes.

To hear them tell it, anyway.
