One of my coworkers is a retired USN Lt. Commander, he was stationed in So. Korea around the time of the death of the Kim's father and during the first year of this current madmans tenure.
He has stated numerous times that we should blow one of N.Ks missiles out if the sky, preferably about 500 feet above the launchpad. That maybe a bit radical, but what if we intercepted one as it entered international airspace?

We are talking primitive rockets here. Firing in the general direction of Guam is the same as firing at Guam.

If the rhetoric is to be believed, that is how it will be taken.
Maybe 2017 will see the next firing of a nuclear weapon, by someone.

This is just the beginning, Iran is next, they will start threatening the region with nuclear weapons soon, and they don't need a long range capability.

Kuwait has just announced penalties for NK which on the surface may not seem to carry much punch, but Kuwait hires laborer supplied by NK to work in oil fields,. All wages goes straight back to moon face. But forced labor is the only commodity NK has.

Wherever North Korea goes, the foul stench of Russia and China follows, because North Korea is nothing but a Russian-Chinese proxy.
The brain of North Korea is in Moscow and Beijing. I say strike the brain.
Leave North Koreans alone, but impose new sanctions on Russia and China. Make the sanctions particularly painful and crystal clear that this is a yellow card for Russia and China using the North Korean proxy to discredit and sabotage the United Nations in the region.
You will see results, unlike the fruitless attempt to intimidate Kim Jong Un, who is a just a stupid parrot, parroting everything Putin the Xi tell him to say.

Pointless and misses the crux of the matter entirely. Russia is a major disruptive element in the world but is today a bit player in the NK situation. China indeed is the major sustainer of NK but far from the puppet master - rather they are the Frankenstein that has unleashed the monster but has not that much control. China has a fear of the collapse of the NK regime so ends up having to feed the beast even though they probably have as much concern of what damage it could bring down upon the world as anyone else. If there is a way to reassure China that squishing the NK lunatics would not either release a flood of migrants into China or leave them with hostile forces on their border then they might be as cooperative as necessary in putting the cosh on fat boy fat as anyone else.

News has reported that the N Korean great leap forward in rocket engine power and reliability might be as a result of a technology transfer from America's Ukraine allies.

Ya, right put sanctions on China. Then what? How much of our national debt do they own? Something like 17%. Bad idea, very, very bigly bad.

Maybe Pakistan? Pakistan is on a major nuke weapons build up even as their economy degrades and they also fear America will somehow steal their nukes. Create a distraction in N korea.

Trump doesn't understand the oriental mind which is all about "not losing face"; Mattis (according to Wiki) believes in understanding different cultures mindsets, so I'd have thought he'd have advised Trump how to handle Kim better.
For examp, Don's "fire and fury" comment made Kim feel belittled, that's why he's now doing underground nuke tests and firing missiles to regain face and pride.
Maybe Don should invite Kim to the White House for a friendly chat (no I'm not kidding), to boost Kims damaged sense of self-esteem.

Yeah, diplomacy is not The Don's strong point..
TRUMP- "So you're Kim Jong-un, I've heard about you"
KIM- "What have you heard Don?"
TRUMP- "I've heard that you're a pouting overgrown schoolboy brat!"
KIM- "Prove it!"
