I never bothered with Avatar, since I didn't care for Dances.

I like Costner as an actor, but he chose some really lame roles. The postman was a good book, but a lousy movie. Never suffered through the entirety of Waterworld, even though I really like Dennis Hopper.

I still think waterworld is one of the most underrated movies of all time. Not in the sense that it has artistic qualities, but it is very entertaining. I also liked Postman, but mostly because there's so very few apocalypse movies.

You need to surf Netflix and amazon more. There are post-apoc movies galore. There are at least four long-running TV series that I follow, and several others I don't.

Not to mention all the stuff on NatGeo.

Sorry, but Waterworld defied even the rules of Hollywierd stupidity in it's entire concept.

Never-ending supplies of fuel, machine parts, modern machinery, cigarettes, booze and ammunition? On a totally (almost) flooded world? Seriously?

Avatar was cowboys and Indians transferred to the future, but it will be a classic because of the CGI technology which represented a major step forward. Pax and I have watched it repeatedly simply to enjoy the world Cameron created.

Psychologically, it is interesting to note the optimism has faded from the films of today, to be replaced by endless apocalyptic story lines, most of them special effects festivals without any hope of redemption, such as:

2012
San Andreas
Deep Impact
Armaggedon
The Core
Sharknado

Reminds me of the atomic scares in the 50's with the giant ants, spiders, etc. Drive-in movie B-films that gave the girls a reason to move as clase as possible!

Interesting-I hadn't considered that before, but I believe you are right.

Don't forget the SPAM and the cigarettes that stayed dry.

The "world" was actually just a CGI rendition of looking at a reef tank while on psychedelics like mushroom or LSD.

The movies you list are all B rate, but you hit spot on with the lost hope. I was just reading a piece how the heroes in literary have become more and more flawed. Same applies to tv and movies. Instead of the perfect Superman who always does the correct moral judgement(well, not in the latest comics and movies) we have deeply flawed heroes, whom if they do good do it for selfish reasons.

But then again, perhaps that is a more accurate portrayal of the world.

Also, I think I've already watched everything sci-fi related from Netflix and the net. Would love any suggestions.

A tendency originating in earlier TV crime series where it first became fashionable to give the protagonist a physical flaw (eg a Wheelchair, blindness etc) and then various mental hangups including a psychopathic streak, suicidal tendencies etc.

... what's epitomised by "Wynonna Earp", "a Canadian-American supernatural Western horror television series" on Syfy in the US and CHCH in Canada."

Genre: Dark fantasy, Drama, Horror Western, Supernatural - of course!

It's Comic based, features strong females, demons, lots of bang-bang, and LBGT characters i.e. Lesbians.

Episode 1:

Wyatt Earp's great-great-granddaughter Wynonna, along with her sister Waverly and Black Badge Agent Xavier Dolls, return to Purgatory to deal with revenants who have died by Earp's gun, "Peacemaker".

Renewed for season 2, does it get any better than than?

I've watched it, its a Buffy clone with a western theme.

It is far from great, but I've seen most of the first season.

To me Brimstone did a better approach to this genre, but it died after one season.
