Thumbs up Tempest at War (Video)

The finest British fighter of WWII and the culmination of all the British research and lessons from years of harsh wartime experience.

I loved the Tempest Mk. V ever since I read Clostermann. I am waiting for DCS or someone to make one so I can fulfill boyhood dreams...

My favorite WW2 fighter ever since I read Closterman's Le Grand Cirque.

The video is great find. Thanks you.

i have Pierre Closterman's book, in an air show in the end of war some Tempests from his squadron had a mid air collision, his plane's included. he could bail out, but the other pilots couldn't. this disaster had a deep impression on him, so he asked to be discharged. early Tempests, with the Napier Sabre engine had a great overload on it's pilots, too fast landing speed among other things. when Tempest MK II, with the Bristol Centaurus engine appeared, things got much better to the pilots, unfortunely too late to fight in WW2.

The Centaurus had no effect on the landing-speed, but it was more reliable.

Clostermann seems in a very depressed state during his time in 122 Wing; read Sheddan and others by comparison and they loved their Tempests and have nothing to say about it 'overloading' anyone. In fact, Beaumont said publicly that he could not understand Clostermann's whinging, that the Tempest was not a difficult aircraft to fly by comparison to almost every other high-performance aircraft except possibly the [stupidly easy] Spitfire.

A good fighters. It was one of the fighters that intercepted the V1s along with the Meteor, Spitfire, as well as the Thunderbolt.
