Incidentally - I wouldn't rule it out, in modern "domotica" you can connect your front gate, central heating, coffee machine and even your bath tub to your smartphone, allowing you to operate them at a distance.

If you do so, your entire household could be "hacked", the "weak link" would be your "smart" phone though, not the tub.

Again, "smart" TV.

If your TV is NOT connected to the internet - the only way for the CIA to use it to spy on you is to hide inside it, hard to do with a flat screen

I don't know if her claim about microwaves has any merit, but the concept of using "smart" devices to spy is real and troubling.

The US intelligence chief has acknowledged for the first time that agencies might use a new generation of smart household devices to increase their surveillance capabilities.

n the future, intelligence services might use the [internet of things] for identification, surveillance, monitoring, location tracking, and targeting for recruitment, or to gain access to networks or user credentials, Clapper said

And that's why I would advise anyone to stay away from anything that has the adjective "smart" in front of it.

It's the scam of the century - IF you value your privacy.

A microwave plugged into nothing but the electricity net should be safe though

Yep. Connecting everything to internet is not exactly as wise (and certainly not smart) as some people seem to imagine. I just wonder how long it will take for the 'smart' device produces to start utilizing powerline networks - at which point only way to be 'safe' would be to unplug the devices. Conway's comments aside the spying via the 'Internet of Things' seems more likely every day - tons of hilariously badly protected devices connected to internet sounds like a bonanza for hackers. Given the possibilities for blackmailing it seems practically certain that it is something we will see more and more often - some one's homecooked version of Stuxnet ruining your fridge/oven/house/car unless you pay...

However given Conway's comments it seems she would be far more susceptible to been spied via My Friend Cayla than via microwave oven...

Send data down the electrical grid ?

It would have to be equipped for that even if it is technically possible, idk ?

How could you tell the difference? Besides the network over electrical grid is really old news. I had one over a decade ago when the Wi-Fi was just too unreliable here. I think i still have the adapters somewhere... IIRC the signal gets disrupted at the nearest transformer so it is not all that bad, except that usually you don't have your own personal transformer so any one 'sharing' the transformer could access it.

However, as I'm sure you already know, televisions in America that receive dish transmissions or cable are connected to the internet and to the service provider's computer for ordering, billing and so forth.

Given that ordinary dish is just a receiver and some goes with cable receivers it would be a tad tricky to do that since it would need to be done blind. As in receivers are kinda one-way devices. Besides the benefit of spying via a device which doesn't actually send anything back to the person who is doing the spying seems rather limited to me. However in the off chance that some one pulls that off - I would recommend offering Golden Hacker's Cross with Oak Leaves and Crossed Keyboards for any one accomplishing that.

That would allow them to see which season of Game of Thrones you're watching, not to follow the conversation at the dinner table.

Accusing someone of hatred is both inaccurate and childish. I taught seventh and eighth graders with more intelligence and plain common sense that the Trumpsters have demonstrated on this forum.

All you lot seem to be able to do is personally attack those that disagree with your demagogue.

There is King Kong, the largest gorilla in the world; There is Charles Bronson, The Tunnel King from the movie The Great Escape; There is Clark Gable, The King of Hollywood, and now we have President Trump, the Flip-Flop King:

She's a public figure and open to criticism, especially when she either makes something up or lies-and she has done both. Remember her comment on 'alternate facts?' The translation of that is 'lie.'

She's merely part of Trump's swamp and cannot be believed or trusted. If she is in the public eye, and tells a succession of whoppers, then she should be criticized.

And, yes, she is an idiot. She struck me as just plain stupid when she used to be on Fox. She has merely reinforced that opinion along with her questionable veracity.

And which demagogue would that be?

It isn't hatred-it's disgust.

Don't judge others either by your own low standards or by something that you might do yourself.
