US Marines infantry - now with added women

US Marines now has infantry riflewomen

Quote:
For the first time, the Marine Corps has put three enlisted female Marines in a ground combat unit once open only to men, officials said Thursday.
They will serve as a rifleman, machine gunner and mortar Marine, said 1st Lt. John McCombs, spokesman for the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejuene.
They report Thursday to the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, which has had three female officers in its ranks for several months to help integrate the enlisted females into the unit, McCombs said. The women's names and ranks were not released.

I got some good advice from a one-legged Marine way back when. "Shoot the women first, they are there to try and prove themselves. That makes them dangerous."

I came in a little late in life. Sex doesn't seem to play nearly as much of a factor as commitment. A lot of the younger service members are lacking on this count. Combined with some initiative, it made me stand out quickly.

Even now, I'm 41 and I beat 3/10 males on my last PRT. And I was sick as a dog. Ended up on bedrest afterwards, per doctor's orders. Like I said, commitment and initiative.

If you are talking pure endurance rather than strength the gap between women and men is much less.
Interestingly running speed declines slower as you increase the distance for women than for men.

Is this the test? Doesn't look that hard e.g at 46 I could run 3 miles in a little over 18 minutes yet the test only requires you to do it in 33.

it is a fact women in general cannot carry as much weight as far as men...
women are generally smaller with less muscle mass
why do you think there are Men's events and Women's events in the Olympics?

http://www.livestrong.com/article/24...than-a-female/

Quote:
Men not only have more muscle, but pound for pound, their muscle is slightly stronger than a woman's -- about 5 to 10 percent,
we had to pass a physical fitness test ( PFT ] in the USMC
the women's standards for passing were a lot lower
talk about inequality!

The Marines should hold the same standards for men and women in Infantry units. Women should participate with the men in erecting tents and other heavy jobs. I don't think women should be excused from deployment if they become pregnant on purpose. I think a Bad Conduct Discharge is the way to go for this occasion. A woman uses a slot in Infantry Training that could have gone to a male that CAN'T get pregnant.

There are a lot of women out there that want Combat Specialties so they can get quicker promotion and higher ranks. There should also be costs.

Honestly, I give it a year at most before 2 of the 3 are unfit for duty. The third will have spent the majority of her time as a driver for gunny or Sergeant Major.

They aren't lowering the standards for the infantry. Something to keep in mind, there are very few '300' PFT'rs in the infantry, most are low first class/high second class. There really isn't enough time to focus on 18 minute three mile runs.

The infantry is a nasty life style. Endurance consists of humping a pack & gear for numerous miles with next to no support. Running in formation and getting puked on by the guy behind you because he was out drinking until three hours before the run. Community bathrooms, lack of hygiene total complete abuse of the body. By the time a Marine completes his and now her time in the infantry, their bodies are broken.

My opinion; they should have started this in the LAR community first, at least they get to ride most of the time.

This comic series is pretty accurate:

The Navy's is similar: 1.5 mile run, crunches, and pushups. The scary part is that I'm outperforming people 20 years younger than I am, but I take it all of it very seriously and always work hard to be at the top no matter what we're do doing. I'm not the norm.

Our older males come back from deployment with a lot of back injuries. I think its because their bodies aren't used to it, but that's my best guess. I bet some of you guys have a better guess.

Heather, you're correct about their bodies not used to it.

I think the biggest problem with the infantry is that once you make NCO; Corporal.....you no longer go to sick call. The last thing that you want to be seen as is a sick bay commando.
