It would be in Russia's interest in part to bomb them in the Middle East but not beat them. And so it would be for quite a few others as well sans Iraqi and Syrian peoples. That is as long as there is such a nutcase magnet like ISIS & Al Nusra and the lot drawing them in and clustering them into conveniently sized bombing targets...

However i do strongly disagree on the tactics matter. The Russian & Syrian habit of not using precision weapons (or using fully indiscriminate weapons like the barrel bombs) causes extensive civilian casualties. Sure you might argue that you can't make an omelet without breaking the eggs but that is not exactly the case here. Every such case gives growth to further extremists & fighters. So on a long term it could be counterproductive to continue such habits. Besides you can't beat the terrorists just by bombing them. You might be able to weed them down a bit but not beat them. If you consider the socio-economic and ideological backgrounds behind the extremists that part ought to be fairly obvious to any one who bothers to study the topic.

A Christian Christmas in Damascus! Thanks, Santa Assad!

May America join Russia and Syria in the coming year To Bring Peace to the land of Paul at last!

The author is a licensed clinical psychologist and long-time human rights activist who lives and practices in New York City

Yes, that's our Christmas wish. And if President Trump proves willing and able to fulfill his campaign promise to work with Russia to defeat the very terrorists we now secretly support, our wish may actually come true.

Jumping down the Rabbit Hole

Oops! I just did. And I'm sure I left a bunch of you behind. So let me jump back up to the top of the hole and say that this first big photo you see is of a Christian Christmas party for kids in the Christian section of Damascus (protected by the Lord and Syrian government forces) back in 2013. In Damascus Syria, that is. For I only learned today from my devoutly Christian home health aide that many good American Christians have no idea that Damascus is in Syria. And that Syria is the land of St. Paul. It's right in the Bible.

In Acts, to be exact. The Bible tells us that a man named Saul of Tarsus was on his way to Damascus Syria (around 50 AD, Biblical scholars believe) to arrest a group of Christians who had taken refuge there--when he saw a blinding light before him. And as he fell from his horse, Christ the Lord spoke to him from Heaven, saying (Acts 9:3-4):

And from that moment forward, Saul believed in Christ. And 3 days later he was baptized a Christian. And he took the name Paul as his Christian name. And so he became a disciple and an apostle to the Gentiles. And Christianity has been a part of Syria ever since.

The SAA consists of Muslims and Christians working together to defeat ISIL. In other words Its Jesus(Christian) and Muhammad(Muslim) vs ISIL.

The East Aleppo pocket is now the South Aleppo pocket..
Where are the 250,000 people that the MSM had been posting worried stories about? 30,000 have fled to government-run areas. Apparently the other 220,000 are crammed in the remaining pocket - even though the area is apparently deserted except for head-choppers.

Pfff. Quite obviously Assad killed them off. The honest Western true real non-fake media told me so. Are you Putin's Russkie slave to ask for "Proofz", or what?

Dr Wedin will celebrate Christmas in NY. One of my relatives will celebrate Christmas in Syria. And many Syrian Christians and Muslims will celebrate Christmas in Syria. Im sure all of them will enjoy a level of happiness on Christmas morning, even the ones in Syria just like how During Ww1 Christmas did bring joy and relief to many folks involved in WW1. Difference between WW1 and the war in Syria is that clearly we know who the good guys in Syria are....thats the SAA...the bad guys are ISIL, Al Nursa front, the FSA "rebels". The rebels are the headchoppers...you know this, right? One need not even be in Syria to realize the rebel forces are not freedom loving just going by the statements and actions of the Syrian "rebels". If I saw thousands of Syrian Christian and Muslim rebels take to the streets to celebrate freedom and multiculturalism then Id have a different view.

Decapitation is a common capital punishment in Islamic law - it is in fact the norm.

Remember the conversation we had in regard to Saudi Arabia ?

How many were beheaded in Aleppo ?

It's a fight of Islamists against fascists - only reason to support either side is self-interest, as Artyom pointed out above.

Difference between the death penalty in ISIL lands, Saudi Arabia and the United States is that no one in the world recognizes ISIL...the Un recognizes Saudi Arabia and the USA.

ISIL is beheading and enslaving Christians...sure Saudi might be conservative but there are American Christians making tons of $$ in Saudi Arabia...living peacefully in Saudi Arabia.

If you or anyone else can show thousands of moderate rebels Id have a different view. The SAA are not fascists.. Christians, Muslims and Jews all live together in peace in Syria under Assad according to Senator Dick Black of Virginia. Saudi Arabia welcomes Christians, and is a key ally of the USA. I dont support the Assad gov nor have I ever seen any sort of report that showcases moderate rebels fighting ISIL. Its the morally right thing though to support Syrian people who believe in freedom...and nobody has shown any sort of proof that there is a legitimate rebel opposition. What has been proven though is that Senator Dick Black of Virginia approves of Assad and the SAA....and we also have pictures showing SAA members in Santa Claus hats. Id like to see one single rebel story or video showing rebels doing some sort of multicultural activity before I can consider providing a more positive view to the rebels.

Yes well Americans, Christians, Moderate rebels, I don't care about all that, all I know is the Assad regime fits all the criteria of a fascist state.

The Islamists obviously need no further explanation.

The more they kill of each other the better.

Sad for the civilians caught in between.

The more ISIL loses the better, and unless someone can show effective moderate rebels the SAA is the best bet. ISIL winning in Syria poses a serious threat to neighboring countries thereby posing a serious threat to world trade. The Syrian gov does not fit the criteria of a fascist state though considering the secular and multicultural aspect of Syria. According to a NATO poll, 70% of Syrians approve of Assad. And that # is lower then the most recent Syrian elections which had Assad get about 88% of the vote.

Bad news for the Syrians though since they have just become a buffer state, I guess in any game a few pawns must be sacrificed..
They were already at war, and without Russian help the government would've fallen already and be under the radicals.

SAA reports an additional 8,500 civilians released from rebel control in Aleppo over the past 24 hours. This puts the overall total at around 40,000.
Remaining rebel pocket roughly 12 square kilometres. According to Western claims, there should be at least 200,000 civilians crammed in this area.
At least three rebel groups surrendered to SAA and Friends yesterday evening.
SAA and Friends are to resume combat operations in Aleppo later today.
