I agree with the gonzo comparison of Hacksaw ridge combat with Taegukgi. I would add that the style is also similar to that Nick Cage war movie.

The two sides fight as mobs, shoulder to shoulder and it looks like one of those WW2 battle paintings. A lot of gore and men shooting each other in close range.

I liked We Were Soldiers combat a lot better. The Pacific's combat scenes are the best of the genre.

If you mean "Windtalkers" (Nick Cage movie), I totally agree. That's another extreme combat movie. "The Pacific" episode on Okinawa is certainly more realistic.

Just saw Hacksaw ridge with my brother. 4 out of 4 stars.

Hacksaw ridge was a very compelling and highly motivational film. I don't want to give to much away but whether one is Christian or not, your going to be moved by the message of Hacksaw Ridge. Mel Gibson is back and better then ever in directing Hacksaw Ridge. Andrew Garfield and Vince Vaughn deliver stellar performances...this was this first time in awhile I have seen Vaughn is a highly reviewed film and Vaughn does not disappoint in his role as a mean and lean drill officer.

Hacksaw Ridge was Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers on steroids. It was that good, a must see for anyone interested in war movies.

I have noticed that a lot of East Asian war films (Such as My Way, Flowers of War, Operation C, etc.) and action films have this gonzo combat. TBH I watch it for kicks on youtube but in a way it's offensively stupid.

It comes across as a merging of the SPR D-day scene with the fast paced action of kung-fu films/asian action but without much of the intelligence or vision.

Andrew Garfield delivered a superb performance as a soft spoken, God fearing southern Christian. There were a # of beautiful shots in Hacksaw ridge...

This was a bit of a light scene, but one that provides the audience with joy and laughter. I greatly enjoyed this scene. Here we can see the director and writers successfully utilize the comedic talents of Vince Vaughn....

Just saw it on a big screen. Looks like they brought it back to a few screens as a result of the nominations.

I agree it works better as a biopic than a war movie. I was annoyed to the point of distraction by the battle scenes. They seem specifically crafted to maximize Hollywood style visuals. Reminded me of Windtalkers which I hated. But unlike Windtalkers there is enough character and backstory to at least make the overall movie interesting.

I agree that Vince Vaughn was a poor casting choice but thought Garfield did a great job.

I just saw it on DVD
...I do not think it is even close to Ryan or BOB for the fact that it is difficult to make a film about a large battle....
..there was too much BS special effects...very unrealistic...[ did he really save someone by pushing them to safety then kicking a grenade like a football? ]
...some of the acting was not top notch at all...some of the actors appeared on screen and just said words...no acting at all
...his father in real life did not go to the trial
good movie...but the bad part was the battle scenes
Vince Vaughn terrible..the platoon SGT is a very critical part of the training scenes and he wasn't believable at all--except maybe if you've never been in the military

to Mr Doss...a very brave man
he went to battle and stayed behind without a weapon? this to me is going more toward crazy...brainwashed by religion

Nike Cage, one of the best over actors living. In other words, Class B actor at best.

True words.

Meanwhile, Christians should go back and read their Old Testament. Their "loving god" was in fact a violent. angry and indiscriminate killer on a colossal scale, and included babies, women and children and animals on his hit list, and even ordered a loyal worshipper - Abraham - to kill his own son to prove himself.

Conscientious objectors can only exist when the vast majority of soldiers are will to fight to protect that "right." If a CO won't fight against the enemies that threaten his very existence, the existence and freedom of his loved ones and the very existence of of his own nation, what does he stand for?
