Pruitt, TaC, thank you for your participation in this, and I will be continuing this for you guys if the others don't show up.

But, I have to give them a chance. One is a late-comer and the other is having network issues.

I also said something about Sept 1st several times, so I have to give it until then. So, lets hold off a little so that I can do final turn-1 resolutions for everyone simultaneously.
That is something I would like to do every turn, in this game.

Transmission, In the Clear:

If you can hear this, you're alive. YOU are the restoration. The Human Race has been battered and pushed, but We still remain. The Apocalypse is canceled, we will push back against the Zeds and eradicate this blight.

We are the Legion. Out of St. Malo we will grow to restore civilization. We are many, and we are powerful. If you can reach us by sea and wish to be a citizen of the Republic of Frankia, we will accept you. Everyone Fights, No One Quits, and there is much work to be done. If you are inland, know that we are coming. Hold out. When Winter Comes Join Us.

I am Daniel Kaiser, and the Legion has begun the Restoration.

End Transmission.....Loop.....

Good thing about this setup is that a player can come in for at least the first couple of months and not be fatally behind the others. If it takes a week or two for people to drop in no worries.

Okay, I can't wait any longer to hear from the rest of the people out there.
The ones that have not replied here yet can commence with the turn they join us on.

To conclude Turn One, ; Sept. 1-6.

The Isle of Man seems too far away for a boat to make a trip there and return again in 6 days or less, by sail.

I already covered what you saw from the "marauders", and your people are talking about it with considerable interest, rumors abound.
The airfield is a slaughterhouse, the smell is enough in itself to keep people away,,, except for the Zombies. The material situation isn't bad, aside from the tank-farm being on fire. Everything else is intact.... the Z's don't seem to do very much damage to infrastructure on their own.
It takes panicked people to do that.
There are 3 twin-engine aircraft sitting on the pads or in hangars with open doors, and two that collided on the runway, blocking it, but they didn't catch on fire.

You already have about as many boats as you have people that know how to use them, those men ask what you plan for the larger boats available, or about going out after them.
The good news is you have many older men who want to stay here that also would make good instructors.

You have to fabricate new fuel and air-filters for your APC, somehow, and it could use new spark-plugs.

.....
The only intelligible response you get is from a refugee ship calling itself the Zam-Zam. They cruise up when it is too dark for you to get a good look at them, and they leave in a hurry when they see the state of your harbor... or maybe it was seeing one of your batteries fire on the Z's south of you.

They say they will get back to you if they find a good harbor. That was a couple of days ago, and they have not answered your hails since then.

Turn Results-

Isle of Wight-
Morale'; Good
Fuel; acceptable but more will be needed
Food; good and improving rapidly, but a lot of Farmers will have to return to the fields for harvesting.
CCP; still 5, nothing unusual to report.

St. Malo -
Morale; good
Fuel; good and improving
Food; acceptable but much more will be needed
CCP; still 5, nothing unexpected has happened, but all eyes are on the Battle of the Phase-lines, as it is called now.

We will now begin Turn Two, Sept. 7-10

Daniel Kaiser surveys the front after the first push of what the people were calling "The Battle of the Phase Lines". Only Centurions and Legates still called it "Operation Reaper".

"We will put barricades here, and here." He points to alleyways and streets. "We will also need to barricade the doors and windows of the buildings. I want to be able to put a Century on rooftops and patrolling this section and cover it against breaches. We've got a lot of front, and there's no good way to expand it without expanding on the broad front. There just aren't any natural canalizing points in this part of the city."

Getting back in his Kubelwagen, he rides to the shipyard. Surveying the replica Schnellboote someone was getting ready for one purpose or another, and the ship in dry dock, he talks to the welders and other skilled laborers examining and preparing to start work. "I know that you might think this is a white elephant, a job that will cost more than it's ever worth. But you've got one of the most important jobs right now. These two ships especially, are signs that we're coming back from the brink, that there's hope and there's going to be a tomorrow. This isn't surviving, it's preparing to thrive. And when they're ready, "Frankia" will ply the waves and contact other survivors, bringing news and commerce. And "Viking" will patrol these seas and ensure that pirates don't prey on our civilian boats."

After talking to the shipyard and surveying the piles of salvaged goods and supplies being organized and stored away for use, Kaiser rides back to his headquarters for a rousing meeting with several Senators. So many things to organize, and approve.

As night falls, he goes to the canteen to pick up his rations. Being Augustus doesn't mean he is above the other nearly five thousand living souls under his protection. But it does mean that the canteen is normally closed when he gets there to eat. And that he has no small number of young ladies wanting to cook dinner for him. That whole 'women and children first' thing had it's privileges to go with its responsibilities.....although being the 'most eligible bachelor' in St. Malo was more of a burden than a joy, especially when he had to be a Leader and not just a Marine.

After eating dinner.....it's off to bed.....to sleep....much to the annoyance of the coed joining him.....

The Colonel calls the meeting to order: "Ladies, gentlemen, we need to get some stuff done, so let us finish our plans. We need to continue our salvage of usable spare parts and metals, plus we need to start work on a fortified line South of East Cowes. Once we complete work on this line we will be able to house more people and we will have several more farms inside our lines. We now have a number of civilians organized into Construction Battalions and we need them to work on the lines. This work will attract Zombies, so we will need our fighting troops to protect them and we will need the civilians to carry self defense weapons.

First off we will cut some trees and trim them so we can raise the fence as quickly as possible. We will then send the 1st Company back into East Cowes to continue the Sweep and Clear Operations. The line will run along water lines as much as we can make it. I want it to run from the Island Harbor Marina along the creek that feeds into it to A3021 and down to Lushington Hill Road. We will continue on East until we reach the Wooten Creek Bridge. There we will set up a Fortified Gate to protect the entrance to the area. We will close up the houses on the North edge of the road and fence the distances between them. Later on we will continue the Fortified Fence.

We will withdraw from the construction area each evening so we can protect our workers. They are not soldiers. We will not send in the workers until we have swept the area clean for several days in a row. Work will start at the Island Harbor Marine area first and continue East from there. We will assign the Fire Engine we found to wash down the area we crushed the Zombies in last week. We will use it on infected areas after we clear East Cowes.

We did recover some vehicles from our run to the Military Museum but we need to check them all out before using them. Our friends at the refitting companies will remove spark plugs from the vehicles and use sand blasters to clean the heads. They will also clean the fuel filters and air filters. We should have more fuel available once we have Isle of Wight Fuels tank farm under our control. There are other resources available in East Cowes as well.

Second Company will relieve First Company every other day until we get the fence built. Any refugees we find that wants to join us will be sent back to the floating bridge and be transported to where we can sort them out at the Yokogawa Marex. The ferry can tie up to any of the piers on the East Side and will do so to evacuate refugees. We will check out any group of refugees that hail us from the East Bank before sending the ferry. Radio link will be used to send the ferry across.

Keep in mind we need to identify skilled workers from the unskilled. We have a special need for Sailing skills and Construction workers.

Any civilians that refuse to work will be escorted to a gate and allowed to leave the lines. We will continue to organize Militia units as weapons become available.

We also need to send out a boat to the Fawley Oil Refinery to see what shape it is in. Even if it is shut down, there should be tanks full of fuel we need. We also need to send a boat into Portsmouth and Poole. We need to contact any surviving Marines and Sailors. If we can identify a couple of Naval ships, we can maybe salvage them.

That should be enough for the next week!

Colonel Pruitt, Royal Engineers, ret. MM

For both of you-
If you want to make progress with your military forces, I need specific instructions for specific units.
And if you would like to rest your men for three days, I would like to know that too.

I will check elsewhere to see where the barricades are. The shooting has dies down and your men are catching a break, but you are right; the places where they have stopped isn't a very good defensive area.
Some buildings have been pulled down prematurely with copper pipe and other things still inside, but its too late to help that now.

The mystery of La Cite is solved; the Zombies there are damaged, they can only crawl but are still hungry and dangerous. A few of your new recruits want to prove themselves by going out there with axes to take care of the situation.

Zombies from the other side of the river have also started finding their way across the bridge. A trickle for now, but there are tens of thousands over there.

'Bout those responsibilities;
The number of pregnant women is increasing noticeably, as if in defiance of all the death surrounding this place. Perhaps getting that Hospital up and running should be a priority in the future.

The troves of weapons you have are a blessing in themselves, you will find nothing more in your respective locations beyond what is normal for those areas.

Ax, sword and other old weapons are proving effective, and quiet. However, most are cheap modern playthings that are effective for a little while... and then fall to pieces.

That's pretty aggressive, but it will gain you a lot of ground, including some valuable Farms. At issue is the fact that you will have to patrol the ground behind you, zombies tend to pop up unexpectedly, and that is one mile of new frontage that does not have anything more than a road and a few buildings for cover when you arrive.

Your biggest problems are all at Wooten Bridge.
Firstly, the bridge is wide and strong, and the water below it can be waded.
Secondly, a halftrack and crew went to plunder the Lakeside Park hotel, and so many Zeds came boiling out that they pushed it right over on it's side! That cost you three men, and three more had to run for their lives... but you many have some ready replacements at hand;
Fernhill Farm was was converted into a fortress that seems to have everything, except a radio. That is where your men are now, with 50 other folk.

The problem is, that thing is just outside your perimeter, and there always seem to be a few Zeds waiting for you or ready to chase your people back home again. It makes your people very nervous, but has only cost you one man so far.
Those light tanks are very handy at keeping the walls secure, and one of the Stewart crews had the bright idea of turning on a jury-rigged siren on and leading the Zeds on a merry chase through the countryside.
But, when fuel was low they had to come back leading a hoard of 3,000 back to your lines.
... I'll need an update on how you deal with that mess.

I will add Skilled Workers to your weekly summary next turn, so that you all can see how you are doing with that in simplest terms.

Nobody is refusing to work, there is no internet, no TV, none of the usual electronic time-killers that would give them something else to do.

Fawley has only one problem; no crude. It was emptied out by the Navy before they left, and all that is left is a Minesweeper that ran hard aground. It is full of fuel, there are even drums of it on deck... and the crew are all Zombies now.

Portsmouth is a ghost-town, what isn't still smoldering. Even the Warrior is gone, and it looks as if someone tried to move M 33 out of there.
Your men do find some documents in that old hulk, they indicate that you may be at the wrong end of Britain... the Govt was pulling back north, to Scotland. Maybe they intend to rebuild Hadrian's wall.
The nearest point of any Government presence is Windsor Castle, where a Royal or two may be holed up.

Poole is a mess, and Brownsee Island is crawling with Zombies that apparently came over as refugees and, well... tragic, isn't it?

I don't expect to have the new line across to Wooten Bridge up in a week. After we finish the line we can start cleaning out the Zombies in East Cowes and check out the new grounds. If the water is shallow we will run the line down Wooten Creek until we reach deep enough water.

We are cutting fifteen foot long tree trunks. We are using backhoes to dig a five foot deep trench. We will use laborers to move Tree Trunks and spoil to pack the earth back in. We will also dig more earth to pile on the inside of the line to build a parapet. Anyone on the other side will have to scale ten feet of fence. The Defenders will have a fence five feet tall from the parapet to fight from. There will be small gaps between trunks which we can shoot arrows from or maybe even stick a blade through. This will be closer to a Roman type line. Colonel Pruitt is an Engineer after all!

I want the Recon troop to back up the first line while we use the 1st and 2nd Companies to help clean up East of the river. The Command Company will back up the workers while the Company keeps sweeping for Zombies. We can use one of those M-3 Stuarts from Command Company to use the siren to lure the Zombies towards Shanklin. Perhaps we can use the aircraft to do a couple of ground attacks on the hordes following him?

We will use the artillery in the Command Company to bring the Zombie Horde under fire that followed us home. We have enough smaller tanks like the Combat Car and the M-2's to take the horde under fire. They can also run them over.

Back in Cowes we need to start making some old fashioned "Bills". That is an eight foot Polearm with a spear point and an axe behind the point. You can chop or poke with them! We can also start training some Blacksmith/Weapon craftsmen. They can also train in making plow blades and simple agricultural tools.

I want some simple Catamarans built to train young people on. They are almost impossible to over turn and can sail into the wind more than a sailboat.

As soon as we get the Flying Spray and Evening Star running we will run some people down to Newport to find that Bulk Carrier and Sailboat. We can probably sail them down the River to tie up at Cowes. We will also send a squad of soldiers in case their are Zombies on board.

Lastly we will post some Militia at the Isle of Wight Fuel terminals. The fences should be up, but may need some strengthening.

We need to expand our Militia and some Professional soldiers! I still would love to start a Yeoman Troop!

We will also look into raiding Fernhill Farm to get as many people out as possible. We just might send that Siren equipped Stuart South from here! The raid will be set up for next turn as will the run down to Newport.

Maybe I should have made that more clear; the only airfield on the island besides Bembrdge is AT Shanklin, just west of Sandown in fact. Your men were just reporting what they had seen while scouting around.

That will work very well, even if the crew of the Stuart is screaming about being fired on by 105mm shells. It was actually valuable practice for your men, and only one of the heavy rounds can close enough to nick the tank with shrapnel.

Okay, hold on, lets prioritize.
You have just under 1,000 able-bodied civilians all told, not counting those taking care of the livestock or Doctors or other vital services... or ill at the moment. That number does include teens and older folks.

How many are you going to commit to those projects?

If you want more, there are about 100 at Newtown last you heard, and you have no idea what is going on at the far west of the island.

Yes, I saw the two airports when I was map searching on google. All I have got from you was there were several aircraft and some defense people there. Nothing was said on actual location. What is the status of my defense force at the airport? Are they forted up or are they overrun? Decisions will depend on what is going on there.
