More fun would have been seeing the poor guys that job was to put the cats in the bags.

Is that where 'the cat is out of the bag' came from???

They were the guys that had scratches all over their face and hands.

I bet that little terrier dogs would have done the job just fine.

No, that term refers to the cat o nine tails, used for flogging sailors. It was kept in a bag painted with tar to keep the salt air from it. when you screwed up, you 'let the cat out of the bag'.

Being caned when bent over a cannon was known as 'kissing the gunner's daughter' (captain's daughter, on armed merchants).

I had a tenant who turned into a 'cat lady', adopted 12 of them. After booting her out I'm still having problems with the apartment. I've torn out the carpet, repainted the place with shellac based primer and it still stinks.

No wonder I loath them now...

It is not the cats' fault, but your own.

What you are dealing with is not urine, but oily pheromone-producing products of scent glands. Toms marking their territory, in short.

Vinegar or various commercial products combined with UV lighting will break down the 'sprays', allowing you to de-funk the place. Painting over it simply gives it a life-extending seal.

To think poorly of cats is to leave the path of righteousness.

There is a technique for putting a cat into a carrier or a bag. If you hold the loose skin at the back of the cat's neck just right it will cease struggling for a short while. It's a reflex left over from when they were kittens and their mother used to carry them by picking them up with her mouth by the back of the neck, if you do it right (supporting the cat with the other hand)and you are fast enough you can put the cat in the box before you can say Schrödinger but if you get it wrong or aren't fast enough so that the cat realises that you aren't its mom it's time for the antiseptic and sticking plaster.

Snatch while they are eating, is my preferred method for a vet trip. It takes a moment for them to transition. I set the carrier on end, so gravity cooperates.

But as you say, the 'momma cat grip' is a winner.

If you are quick.

Unfortunately that appears to be yet another early urban myth as there is no evidence that such whips were kept in such bags. The phrase first occurs in 1760 in a dramatic review in a London paper. The truth is its origins are unknown although there are other explanations which also don't work. See Snopes
BTW No room to swing a cat also does not come from the cat of nine tails and is another unknown origin cat based saying

The French soldiers of WW1 valued them highly as sources of winter furred mittens

That works fine for a house pet type... try to grab my Tom like that and you will regret it. Cat Scratch Fever is what you will have.

I have to grab him and stuff him in face first... when he thinks I am picking him up to go feed him.
He is royally pissed for a long while tho but takes it out on the Vet .

They have to put him to sleep with gas to do ANYTHING to him. He is big and strong... but has a mouth disease that requires a steroid/antibiotic shots every 3 months or so or he can not eat even pate.

I've got a big burly Maine Coon in my cats and it works fine - but only if you do it right - do it wrong and you've got a mini sabre tooth in one hand - and one hand may become the operative term.
