There is no PC glory in criticizing Genghis Khan because he was not European. The Mongolians are not ashamed, but is extremely proud of Genghis. They had to pass a law in Mongolia to prevent too many images and statues of the Khagan. Even the number of images of Mao during the Cultural Revolution could not compete.

The writer doesn't say, he was "the first to..." or he did this positive or that. Everything is aimed at dissing de Gama as a European Imperialist bent on conquest and looting.

I'd expect this writer to wax eloquent about the Chinese treasure fleet of Zheng He. I'm sure these were only looking for equitable trade and treating all they met fairly...
