I'd hazzard a guess, judging by the fasces, in the middle of the flag, it would be Italian fascist. I'd guess that would be a starting point for further research.

Spanish Falangests during the civil war so this needs to be moved to the SCW thread.

Thanks everyone for the quick answers! I initially searched Spanish Nationalist Flags but didn't couldn't find this. I knew that I had to be close to correct due to the use of Mauser rifles in the picture.

Often referred to as the Blue Shirts. Other coloured shirts were available viz

Black Shirts (Facists)
Brown Shirts (Nazis)
Green Shirts (Canadian Social Credit)

(some of course left out the r in the names)

and the original

Red Shirts (Garibaldists)

Strangely no Yellow Shirts

PG Wodehouse took the mickey by inventing Roderick Spode and the Black Shorts as a parody of Oswald Mosley and his Black Shirts

Franco and other Nationalists in the Army seem to have regarded them as damn nuisances most of the time but useful when you needed some fanatics

They are not fasces. It's a bunch of arrows, crossed by a horizontal yoke.

The American ones were the Silver Shirts.

I did not know about the Canadians, but I suspect the Romanian Green Shirts were scarier - it's the Iron Guard.

And, not Yellow, but you can get Golden Shirts in Mexico.

All of the above are all more or less Fascist, but, of course, with the important exception of the Red Shirts.

I didn't think of the rifles, but the headgear is pretty telling.

That told me they were Spanish Nationalists of some description, and I've seen the device (now that it's been mentioned, it does look like a yoked sheaf of arrows) in white on a black disc on some Nationalist aircraft fuselages.

Oh, and the Irish also had the Blue Shirts.

The Green Shirts were actually part of the British Social Credit Movement, an evolution from Kibbo Kift created by John Hargrave

I've never across any mention of this uniform being worn in Canada. SC formed the provincial government in Alberta during the mid thirties and Hargrave did visit the province but had disagreements with Premier Aberhart who Hargrave said wasn't truly representing the principles of Social Credit

There were the Blue Shirts in Quebec, the paramilitary wing of Adrien Arcand's Parti National Social Chrétien , active in the 1930s.
